Is Article Spinning an Acceptable Writing Tactic?

Article spinning is the process of rewriting an original article to produce another similar but ‘original’ article.

A writer can spin their own articles manually by changing the order of paragraphs and switching key words with similar words. Perhaps they will add a new idea or create lists out of paragraphs to create a new look.

You can also find several different article spinning programs that will take an original article and automatically switch synonymous words for keywords and possibly change the order of the paragraphs.

The purpose of article spinning is to create an ‘original’ article that will pass duplication tests so it can be published without being penalized by Google. Users of article spinners are interested in publishing as many articles as quickly as possible with the intent of earning income through affiliates or advertising. The more articles you have out there, the better the chance of people finding them therefore, the better chance you have of earning income.

Unfortunately, many spun articles turn out to be of such poor quality that it is just garbage, frustrating Google searchers looking for useful information.

You’ve seen spun articles. Did you recognize them? They were the articles that didn’t really make sense. The ideas being discussed in the article were probably listed out of order or nothing was really said. Another dead-give-away is the use of inappropriate wording or poor grammar.

It makes you mad doesn’t it? Knowing that the ‘author’ of such a poorly constructed article is probably making money from it. I know it makes me mad.

When an author spins another persons article it is even worse. Someone else has done the research and published an informative article only to have it spun into something of lesser value. How frustrating is that?

Every author has to decide if they are going to spin articles. So far, the on-line community has accepted spun articles as long as they are not word for word duplicates of another article. After all, what can we do?

At the end of the day I think we will find that the original, well composed, informative article will win. I believe readers will recognize the quality of original articles and show their appreciation by following that author and leaving comments if appropriate.

Perhaps that is something we can do about article spinning. Leave a comment letting the author know your thoughts on the quality of the writing – constructively of course. A comment is not the place to author bash.

While I personally don’t believe article spinning is an acceptable writing tactic, some authors use it well. They fix a spun article so that it is understandable and sometimes improve it with a new idea. This I don’t mind as much.

I guess in the end it is up to you. Quality or quantity?
