I just don’t understand. I have wondered this in the past, but I didn’t think to ask for an answer until today!
I just don’t understand. I have wondered this in the past, but I didn’t think to ask for an answer until today!
I continuously read an article, then go back to my dashboard to see if anyone has viewed one of my articles since the last time I looked. Sometimes they have, and sometimes they haven’t. You know how it works. Well, I always check to see if my comments number has gone up also. Then I have a habit of looking again at my number of articles published today and for the month, and I look at the number of likes to see if they have increased. This, my friends, is where my question lies.
I tend to, and always have, had numerous views and few comments. Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining at all. I am just commenting at what I observe, as we all do. What I don’t understand is the ‘likes’. Why is it that many will view an article, and many will comment. You can tell from the wording of the comments many times that the persons have enjoyed reading the articles. So, why then are the likes so few? I can have 15 views, 5 comments and only one like.
Is there a logical explanation that I am missing? Because, I have a habit of reading an article, pressing the link to ‘like’ it and then commenting on the article. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t press the link if I don’t like the article, but I do like most of them, so I show this and the appreciation of the effort of writing an article by doing this. Tell me, am I wrong in doing this?

Honestly, there are times where I tend to forget to actually click that like button. I try not to but it happens.

I always click the likes, but most do not. I do not get many comments either, I mean their number is ok, but that is so until I compare them to a few articles with 75-125 comments, 100+ likes, etc. But if you watch some of them closely, you will see comments like this:
X: Good post.
(author): Thanks X.
Y: Nice post.
(author): Thanks Y.
..
If you want more likes, you get up every morning, open each one of your articles and click the ‘like’. Many could be doing it.
I see the absurdity of it all, but then search engines may/may not. But forget it. May be, it is not worth it.

I simply forget that the button is there most of the time. I have to train myself to stop there before going to the comment box.

Likes dont mean a thing. Write articles that will get noticed by the search engines. Also dont read the articles your “fans” write because they dont read yours. Triond fans are punks who are trying to get free page views without extending the courtesy of reciprocating. Google is my number one referrer. Triond is not even in the top 10!

I suppose everyone has a different opinion about this, but I do click ‘like’ when I like an article. Technical difficulties often crop up, and the like button doesn’t work. Sometimes the comments don’t stay, I try a couple of times to copy my comment, refresh the page, and paste it back in. If it still doesn’t work, I give up.
I think it would be helpful if the like button kept track of who clicks it. Facebook does this. This could be a way for the people who just leave cookie cutter comments just to let you know they were there, to just leave their name without pretending that they read the article.

I do click the like button if I really like the article LJ.

Sometimes I find the like buttom will not work or I forget to click it.

I like this article because it’s reality!

Just as PR Mace said, I too at times can not get the Like button to work. If I have taken the time to read an article, leaving a positive comment, then it stands to reason I would take a fraction of a second to hit the like button.

I also get quiet a few comments, but often only a few likes. I try to hit the like button most of the time, but sometimes I do forget. I suppose that happens to everyone.

nice sharing

After posting my comment, I usually hit the like button, i.e., if I truly liked the article.
September 5th, 2011 at 10:13 pm
I believe many tend to forget to press the “Like” button. But now that you’ve mentioned it, we hope that the number of “Likes” will go up. Your article is a good reminder for us all. Thanks

I’ve learned one thing today and will always remember this one ma’m

Well sometimes the like button is hard to find and sometimes we just focus on commenting than pressing a button. hahaha. Thanks for the share. *Like*

I only “like” an article if I truly do like it. I generally leave comments on everything I read, whether I liked it or not so the author will know who is reading their stuff . . . I get excited when I see comments on my work and assume everyone else does too.

Good observation! I didnt even know the Like button was there!
September 9th, 2011 at 9:01 am
After reading the article, I click the “like” button, but I only click it if I really like the article, and then write my comment.
September 9th, 2011 at 10:46 am
I must admit that I rarely use the like button on this site. If I like an article I say so in my comments so the like button seems to be a bit redunant. I do click the like if I am not in the mood to leave a comment.
September 9th, 2011 at 9:01 pm
Oops, let me click like now before I forget. Ok I click the like button. I usually comment first with the intention to click like then forget. I will always remember now, thanks.

Here’s a comment for you… what the hell is this? Firstly, you could’ve asked the question in a single sentence instead of taking five hundred words to get it out. Secondly, so you don’t have many likes. Maybe nobody likes your work. I’m certainly not chomping at the bit to hit that like button on this. How is this even an article? It’s a meandering pontification that goes nowhere! I thought the foreigners were bad. Damn.
