How to Write a Successful Article in Five Easy Steps

Step 1: Research

Research is probably the most important and fundamental step to writing a successful article or any type of literary work. How could you possibly lay out an interesting, flawless article to your audience on a topic that you don’t know much about? Writing without researching is like trying to write if you can’t read, pointless. Make sure you read at least 3-5 articles or books and/or watch a few videos on the subject you are trying to cover. It is important that you stick to those numbers because too many sources can fill you in with useless information and not enough sources can give you a one-sided view on a particular subject.

Step 2: Title

Here’s the part where you need to look deep inside of you and unleash all your devilish talents. The title should be not only interesting, but shocking and incredible. It needs to spark the fire of curiosity inside the reader’s heart, so he or she cannot help the desire of wanting to click on your article. Heck, you can even make your title a little misleading at times (shh, it’s a secret). But not too misleading, that might cause your reader to get angry or become disappointed. 

Step 3: Organization

Another very fundamental step towards successful writing. Organization is essential if you want your article to appear attractive, well though out and easy to understand. Make sure you have an introduction, a body and a closure. Keep it simple and straight to the point. People want to read, learn and get out. They don’t have time to scroll through your 13 pages of detailed analysis. If you are doing an article about a specific list, for example like the one you are reading now, get straight to the subject. Your opinions and fancy words don’t matter.

Step 4: Keyword SEO

Keywords are another very important part in the quest of writing the ultimate, successful article. Choose 1-2 main keywords which describe the subject you are covering. A keyword can be a single word or a phrase. Make sure to include it in the title, the first sentence of the first paragraph and another 4-5 times throughout the body of the article. This technique will make your article appear attractive to search engines.

Step 5: Grammar

This particular step cannot be stressed enough. Read your own work over and over again before hitting the publish button. Simple grammar mistakes such as mistaking “their” for “they’re” can destroy the appearance of your article and your credibility as an author. It will make your work appear extremely unattractive and you might as well kiss your dream of ‘writing a successful article’ goodbye.
