How to Write a Song!

A guide on some ideas to help you write a song!

So you really want to write a song but are struggling with how to do it? How to start? What genre to go for? Read on…

1. Use the clock!! 12pm-4pm is known as song-writing prime time, when your creativity is at its peak, so start writing then and the ideas may just flow in!!

2. Stop thinking about it so much and start writing!! To write a good song you have to have inspiration by your surroundings so take a minute to think about your life! Listen to the words for the song inside of you!

3. Listen to a lot of music!! Do your research on how other song writers write there lyrics, listen o lots of songs and get inspiration but DON’T copy. Ever. It has to be your own work!

4. Think about the story of the song. whether it be a break up or a fund day out you had, stay focused on that event in your mind!

5. Set the mood well. make sure the music and the tone of the song fits the story, this is only if your writing the music for it too.

6. make your words sing! If people can connect to a song then they will like it more. try to use themes that people can empathise with.

7. Get feedback! Once you have written your song, it may not be perfect but its your song! Sing it for someone you trust to give you honest feedback. Tell them to criticise you- this is a good thing because it will help you improve!!

Remember, there is no perfect way to write a song, it has to be something that comes from the heart (cheesy as it may sound!). You’ll need the courage to fail, but don’t let it bring you down! You can do it (:
