How to Write a Good Essay

My Outline that will earn you an A+ on your essay.

Hello guys, I am going to try to help you write essays on mostly anything by giving you an outline that helps me write essays. Then I will give examples at the end that will help you understand some of those difficult to understand topics like thesis etc.

The first most important part of starting an essay is to write some kind of an outline of what you are planning to write. If it is a research essay, you have to go back another step and collect the information you need for the essay. My best idea for an outline is a “5 paragraph essay outline” where the first paragraph is the introduction, the next three paragraphs are your main points and the final paragraph is your conclusion. Lets get on with this outline.

First Paragraph (Introduction)

  • Make a thesis statement which is an introductory statement summarizing your whole essay. It is important that this sentence is both brief and gripping.
  • Advertise the three main points you are going to use throughout the essay.
  • Make three brief points that you are going to use in the next three paragraphs.
  • Make a final transition sentence which will bring you into your essay.

Second, Third and Fourth Paragraph (Main body)

  • Introduce the first point you are making in your essay.
  • Now support it with two or more factors. If you are writing about a book, these could be quotations from the book.
  • End the paragraph with a transition sentence for the next paragraph.

Fifth Paragraph (Conclusion)

  • Restate your thesis in a conclusive way.
  • Restate the points you made during the essay and add on factors that you have stated during the essay
  • Make a closing statement that will impress the reader.

If you follow this outline, use good vocabulary and make no grammar mistakes then i guarantee you an A+!

Examples:Here are some of my examples of different concepts. These are from two essays i wrote, one on the book Fahrenheit 451 and the other on the book antigone.

Thesis:

“In Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, the author uses allusions to stress and reinforce the story he conveys. The method with which he supports his story using themes is by connecting the events and ideas in the book to the ideas of our present.”

Transition:

“But before the downfall of the tragic hero, Sophocles describes a man who seems perfect in his reasoning with no signs of any failure.”

Quotation:

“Beatty cites Alexander Pope: “Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring; There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again.” (Bradbury106). Piera is a place in Greece with muses dwelling there and Beatty wants Montag and other people to be far away from where muses reside. Beatty is referring to Montag as being intoxicated from reading books.”

Thesis Restatement:

“The many literary allusions that Bradbury includes in this novel help portray the themes and events in the book.”

Closing Statement:

“Maybe, instead of warning us about the future, Bradbury is trying to open our eyes on what is already going on.”

Hope this helped, rate and comment.
