How to Make a Proper Essay

This brief tutorial will show you what teachers expect of you at school.

There are 3 types of essays:

Persuasive:

The Persuasive Essays job is to tell the reader your opinion on a subject. to convince the reader.

Comparison:

The Comparison Essay compares 2 different subjects, the essay wants you to compare and contrast.

Informational:

The informational Essay is to inform the reader, everything is (fact)

Format Rules

  1. Size twelve & font is New times Roman or Ariel
  2. In the top right hand corner you should have your name, then date, course, teacher
  3. Spacing: two spaces between every paragraph
  4. At the start of every paragraph always indent
  5. Title: make creative Ex: “The cat king of the jungles”

The Essay

  1. Every essay we do will be five paragraphs long, no more, & no less
  2. Every paragraph has a job First Intro 4-8 sentences Body 9-10 sentences Conclusion 3-4 Sentences

Introduction

There are three jobs of an Intro:

  1. It hooks the reader
  2. It introduces the reader to the thesis statement. Points 1-2 equals T.S.
  3. It introduces the three key ideas. Point three equals K.I

1st thing you do before you start your essay. The Intro

Hook: The hook is basically the beginning of an essay. It hooks, grabs the reader into the essay. It should have nothing to do with the thesis statement.

Thesis Statement: The thesis statement is the 1st sentence that tells the reader what your positions or it tells them what the essay is about. Ex “ I think cats are better than dogs at being a household pet.” You have only 1 chance to answer all the questions the reader might have. You have to be very specific.

The three Key Idea’s (3KI): Why are they better? Your 3 main key ideas are your evidence, support to your thesis statement. It has to be General.

Ex: “Cats will make a better household pets because being cleaner, Quieter, and more independent.”

Body Paragraphs

The body paragraph consists of your three KI’s. The first sentence of your KI you should introduce your KI. Your second KI is your evidence, your argument. Ex: of the 3 KI’s Cleaner B1, Quieter B2, And Independent B3.

Trans: Transitional sentences

The Trans job is to conclude the paragraphs key ideas and to introduce the next key idea’s without using the word of the key idea. TranS in KI1 and KI2.

Conclusion

Don’ts

A summary of your thesis statement.

Begg: I want you to tell me the thesis statement but do it in a different way.

I want you to give the reader something to think about.

P.S: Go under the surface not over it.
