What you may consider when you begin to write.
Today it might be one genre and tomorrow another. It depends on your inspiration. So you have to try out different genres from time to time and not necessarily leave one genre behind for ever. We are all interested in a lot of different things and subjects and I have written both scientific books and more popular fiction. But the one subject doesn’t rule out the other. And even though you might think so to write fiction needs just as much research as scientific books. For the reader to really like the book or the text it needs to be written in a way that shows credibility. If the reader knows about the subject and finds errors or just minor disagreements then the whole text is ruled out by the reader.
What I’m saying is that you need to be comfortable with your writing. You need to feel that you are writing about something that almost no one else than you can write. Then you have found your ideal genre. And as I said this doesn’t mean that you can’t have more than one genre. Knowing a lot about history and being the author of a scientific book about history might just make you a great writer of fiction. And the other way around.
