How to Allow Your Creativity to Fly

Ideas on how to get your creative juices flowing.

With writers block it seems like it takes forever to get the flow of any sentence, so here’s a few tips; grab a piece of paper and a pen. Sometimes we have to do things the old fashioned way. When you pick up a pen and a piece of paper, sit at a desk or anywhere else you feel nice and comfortable. Now allow your mind to wonder, usually a thought comes in and with that thought comes a word. It can be any word; for example the word storm comes to mind.

Outside my window it is over cast, which is strange for San Diego weather we usually have 24 7 sunshine, which makes me sick, but some would like it. With the word storm, you can picture a nice beautiful home under the attack of a storm, of course you have to start with the beginning stages of the storm, such clouds. Most likely they would be dark clouds and with clouds comes light rain. Now remember this is San Diego so we have light rain. Notice how I keep referring back to San Diego . I’m telling you about the weather and how there really isn’t any weather, but in any event our storms start with mellow rain. I heard that our rain isn’t like the rain in the South. We have light rain, but if we have a storm then we have heavy wind and hard rain. Do you see where I am going with this?

The word storm came to my mind. Maybe the word storm your mind also, but do you see how I took that thought and ran with it? That’s how the creativity flows. It starts by a thought, but of course I am probably telling you the reader, something you already know. I am simply here to educate the ones that have no idea how to get those creative juices flowing. It helps to give yourself a topic.

My next thought or topic would be kitty cat. I don’t know if you know this, but cats are one of the most important animals in the world. I’ll give you an assignment, you must write down why cats are one of the most important animals in the world. Now I can think of more then one reason why cats are one the most important animals in the world, but I want you to use your mind to figure this out. When you think of a cat, what comes to mind? You know taking my how to advice might lead you to writing the next great American novel or atleast discover the writer that is screaming to get out.
