Hard Time for SEO of Your Articles: Google is Changing

Google has announced that it is updating its search results so as to rank down the content farms and rank up quality websites providing unique and useful content. That means Triond’s sites are likely to rank down as the trends show in my graphs.

It came out in recent news that Google is changing again this time against the fast milling content sites that have their content generated by their users. In news it is clearly reported that some websites which get their content from low-paid freelance writers without much quality or usefulness will be ranked lower in search results whereas as those sites which are providing useful, thoughtful, unique content will be ranked higher.

I don’t know if they are really doing what they are saying but I have begun to notice dramatic decline in my visit trends in the last few days. Only new thing happened other than news was publishing 21 articles for the bonus in the last week of February which I don’t think should have impacted the trends of more than months old articles.

This may be because the web is growing because of lot of user generated content either random content or content milling sites or duplicating sites. More new websites means less % of our content within in the total World Wide Web. Alternatively Google could be actually implementing their new ranking strategy.

Either way the result is same. Ranking down. However I expected my visit trends to be within their range as they stayed through the months of December 2010 and January 2011 through February 2011. But this need not hold true looking at the trends back into many past years.

This means we have another challenge ahead of us. We not only need to constantly write more articles to keep our share constant in the growing world wide web, we also need to improve the quality of our articles by making them unique (no duplicate or copy), useful (no random thoughts or crap), thoughtful (writing from experience or applying own analysis) so the readers will like them (more importantly Google will rank them higher for the short term).

This leaves us with some work to do on the past work and take on another new challenge into our writing.

We sure dont need another bad thing happening in this bad economy. I thought that maybe some views went down because so many of the Triond members who view my sites were very busy trying to get their 20 articles in. I think some of them wrote about 50. It probably wouldn’t have affected you that much because your views are so high, but mine were only 300 or so.

    John,
First I read this in hard copy news paper. But I found its online copy too.

Hmm, that could explain why my numbers have dropped off. While yours have dropped, those of us that don\’t get a lot of hits anyhow really notice the difference.

It\’s so hard to fit in additional time into my day to write good quality articles that people will like. Unfortunately, our industry has been infiltrated with what I\’d call smut writing.

Oh well, I can dream of lots of people reading my articles some day, right?

Most of Google’s changes in algorithms are only minor, although I hope they don’t affect my articles too much.

Triond’s quality is not what it once was and we all need to strive harder to raise the value.

Judy, You are right. The challenge is to learn and write useful articles on new topics that we might not have known much about before. I am in for this challenge.

I think this is happening for our good. Interestingly my total views on Triond and Bukisa went up today to better levels. What could be happening is readjustment of ranking of various articles day after day. Those articles which did well in the past could now be ranked lesser and those which did poor (due to bad competitors) could now be ranked higher. Many of my articles do have some thoughtful, unique content to help some section of my audience. If you are in the same boat or better then no need to worry. Just work on becoming more helpful to the online user.

Good article. This had me worried, but not that much. There seems to be nothing different with my views. They are still low and they still jump like crazy every day. I am even starting to think that it might be a good change as you mentioned in one of your comments here.

Thank you for the information. Been doing some weird articles lately but I will try to analyze the trend of my visits and improve my content.
