Improve your writing

Getting Inspired

My story on becoming a young writer.

Ever since I was young I always loved writing. Whether it was writing stories or poems I would use my imagination to create them. I stopped writing for about 5 years. I have recently started again. I realised how much I love writing. I use writing to express myself. I am not a person to open up about my feelings that easily so writing is like my best friend. I never thought myself as a writer until people started commenting on my writing. Telling me how good I was and that I shouldn’t stop writing and that I should keep writing. I could still use a lot of practice, but it’s nice to hear people who take time to say something good about you.

Now as a young writer, being only 15, I often find myself wracking my brain to find something to write. I often get stuck on what to write next and how to write it. I am a person that is not easily inspired when writing, but after talking to a close friend who is also a writer, she told be that she gets inspired very easily, whether it’s watching a television show, listening to music, or talking to people. After talking to her I realise how easily I would be inspired to write if I paid a little more attention to the life going on a around me and taking time to think about it. Life just goes by too fast with school starting again, family, duties, and possibly a job. Just taking time to realise life and a whole bunch of things can make writing so much easier. If I only knew it was that easy to get inspired I would probably have wrote my whole poem book full.

So my best advice to those out there struggling to write:

1. Writing good poems won’t happen over night, it takes practice so don’t give up. Keep working at it.

2. Don’t wrack your brains, if you can’t write a winning poem or story in one sitting don’t try, take your time.

3. Pay attention to little things, notice little details, and don’t forget the big details in life.

4. Inspiration can come at any time, so always bring a notepad and pen everywhere or that thought might be lost forever.

Writing isn’t as hard as it seems, just some time and thought can make it a lot easier.
