We’ve all been there…one moment the words just flow out like beetle juice, and then the next moment we have complete, utter writer’s block. Here are a few writing exercise ideas to get those juices flowing again!
- Write the minute you wake up in the morning. Write exactly what’s on your mind, don’t get dressed or brush your teeth, just write the first thing on your mind, even if it’s how tired you feel.
- Complete this sentence: The first time I fell in love…
- Word association: write down a list of nouns. Then next to that list, write one adjective for each noun. Form a random, wacky sentence using a different adjective for every noun, not the matched up one.
- Think of your happiest childhood memory. Describe it. Then see if you can write a memoir.
- If you are meeting with a writing group, have one person write one sentence that starts a story. Then pass that paper around to everyone so that each person can add one sentence. Then read the story out loud once everyone has had his or her input.
- Write down the funniest memory from your past.
- Describe someone you just met today or someone you talked to once or very few times.
I really hope some of these help! They are only suggestions and you could possibly brainstorm to come up with even more writing exercises I have not thought of. Happy writing!
