Online writers are turning to article publishing websites such as Triond and HubPages to make money online, but their best times have passed. Freelance writing provides even inexperienced article authors with a solid online income.
We all know how it works. You search Google for ways to write for money online and a bunch of article publishing websites pop up. Depending on your luck, preferences and eagerness to do research, you’ve probably ended up as a member of Triond, Bukisa, HubPages, Squidoo or some other site that offers you a cut of their ad revenue in exchange for your writing.
If you’re one of the writers presently submitting your work to websites such as Triond or HubPages, chances are that you’ve been experiencing lower income figures since sometime last year due to major updates done to Google’s search algorithm. Having relied on ads and traffic from Google, article publishing sites still find it hard to adapt to these changes. New online writers are in an even worse situation, having never known about the true income potential of article writing.
Websites such as Triond, Bukisa and even HubPages, now collectively labeled ‘content farms’, no longer attract as much traffic from Google and have lost a fair share of their former potential as online income sources. Freelance writing now holds even more advantages over them than before.
Even a smaller website now has a better chance of ranking higher for keywords that were previously dominated by content farms. Thousands of webmasters are desperately looking for original content that would make their websites be noticed by Google. Some can produce it themselves, but most prefer to hire freelance writers.
Just as hosting, design and optimization costs are fully covered when you submit your articles to HubPages or Triond, freelancing requires no effort on your part besides submitting your work on time and complying with all the requirements given to you by the client.
Unlike publishing on your own or submitting your articles to Triond, the only concern of freelance writing is finding an honest client. Once you’ve scored half a dozen well-paying contacts, you can maintain a steady income you could only dream of when you were waiting for ad revenue to fill up your pockets.
Even the lowest freelancer payment rates are highly competitive when compared to article publishing sites like Triond and HubPages. In fact, the only writing-related occupation online that on average has a higher earning potential than freelance writing is publishing articles on your own website or blog.
Admittedly, websites like Triond and HubPages can still be a viable income source to online writers who know how to use them and there are other profitable online businesses besides freelance writing. In the end, it all boils down to what you prefer to do with your time.
So, unless you’re planning to start your own website or have something even better in mind, this is a great time to become a freelance writer.

I’ve always known that freelancing is the best route. Unfortunately there is such an over-saturation of article writing sites that pay next to nothing for content that is sub-par, getting legitimate work for a reasonable price is difficult. Do you by any chance know how good writers can market their work to legitimate clients willing to pay .10 per word or more? I’d really appreciate any info you may have!
Thanks for a well written piece.

This is a nice article. Thanks so much for suggesting the thought of freelancing. I’d like to try it some time. My mother had been suggesting that I should start but I don’t think that I’m still that good of a writer. XP Though, really, I would like to try it out on my spare time, just to see how far I’d go. xD

Yes, Freelancing is an interesting option if you want to **take things further**. Not all **Content Mills or Farms** are alike however. Suite 101 for example has a very strong **editorial** which pursues high quality with great gusto.
