An example lesson plan for four kinds of writing…
Lesson Title : The four kinds of writing:
Previewing and reviewing towards writing a composition
Year Level : First-Year College
Time : Three Hours
Specific Objective s : At the end of the lesson, the students are able:
Materials Used : Over-Head Projector, OHP Film, Handouts,
Photocopies, and Discussion Board
Procedures : Using the deductive approach in previewing and reviewing the past lessons, the
teacher introduces three-hour topics with Visual Presentation through the Over-
Head Projector. The following topics are the four kinds of writing.
The students will choose a partner for the face-to-face interview.
In the interview, each member in a pair will share experiences, personal attributes about age, height, color, and complexion, and likes and dislikes, or any thing under the sun in order to obtain information from the member.
After sharing or self-disclosing, the students will write their first draft from the idea and information they obtain from the interview.
The class is divided into four groups.
Each group will be given suggested topics to work for, and that is on “How-To-Do” paragraph.
Each group then will brainstorm about the chosen topic.
After brainstorming, each group will write their first draft.
The teacher will present photos to the students.
The students are asked to give comments or to say something about the photos they see.
After the photo presentation and the students’ discussion, the students will write one paragraph about their comments.
The teacher gives an ample time to the students to reminisce.
Then, let the students write a part of their lives or a slice of it. An example for this is “My First tour in the US”.
Closure : Today, we learn the four kinds of writing. The teacher then calls the students to
explain the nature of each kind.
Assessmen t : After the discussion on the four kinds of writing, the students should be given a
short quiz about the topic.
