Some people are crazy to think they could ever be successful freelance writers, getting their pick of freelance writing UK and US based jobs. Are you one of them – or do you stand a real chance of success?
It seems as if everyone thinks they can write. While it’s true times are tough and the economy is going from bad to worse, it doesn’t automatically mean you can hop online, put pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard and write to earn money. If it was that easy we’d all have started doing it a long time ago. You need to face facts – writing is NOT a career to fall back on when life gets in the way and you find yourself without a job.
I’m not saying this to be harsh or to prevent you from trying to get freelance writing UK jobs. I’m in the UK and I know there is plenty of work around you can earn good money with. But there are four reasons you should be aware of that might prevent you from earning a decent living from writing.
Sounds obvious, doesn’t it? Anyone who thinks they can sit down and write something professional and readable that makes sense when they have never done so before isn’t going to make the cut. You should have a fair idea of how good you are and whether you have a chance. If you aren’t that good at writing, maybe your time would be better served doing something else.
If you know you would never have dreamed of writing in any other situation, you’re not the kind of person who would be good at making money online in this way.
Let’s face facts here – if you want to earn money by getting into online writing you have to be a self starter. You have to be able to go out there day after day and look for freelance writing work. No one is going to knock on your door and offer it to you. You’ve got to find it – just as every other successful writer does. Are you that person? Could you do it day after day even if you get some bad luck and you don’t get the results you want all the time?
It’s all well and good wanting to earn money as a writer and get lots of freelance writing UK jobs under your belt. But some so called ‘writers’ out there seem to think all they have to do is ask a pro to provide them with all the sources and info they need to earn money. Let me tell you this – if you don’t have the determination to get out there and do it on your own, you won’t make it as a writer. This is not to be stern or demeaning – it’s simply telling the truth. You have to have determination and pig headedness to keep on looking even when you get knocked back in some way.
So there you have it – four great reasons why you might not be cut out as a writer. The good news is that if you read the above and you don’t recognise yourself in any of the points made, you stand a pretty good chance of making some money from getting freelance writing UK jobs. Even if you don’t make a fortune or a career out of it, you might make enough to make a difference.
