Four Electronic Newsletters for Writers

Sometimes a ray of light shines through the dirty window to help you in your quest to write more and better. These are four newsletters for writers that may help.

Writing is hard work. It makes the world go around. Making a living from it is difficult and yet those that do like to write have a compulsion to do so. Sometimes you need a break, a lift, a thought, an idea, proof you are not alone. And sometimes you need a key to the door that is given to you and you have not had to pay or even earn it. Here are three websites and one email address where you receive a regular newsletter by email. Even if you manage to glean one tip from each one, it might help you. And if you can’t be bothered that week, assign it to file 13, the recycle bin!

  1. Writing for Dollars

The newsletter from this site contains a database of markets as well as guidelines for publication and there is always a useful article each issue. Yes there is some advertising, just by pass it. I have received this for some time and have never, like all the sites in this article, found I have been spammed as a result of subscribing. And if you do subscribe to this one, you will be sent a free e-book, “83 Ways to Make Money from Writing.” Again, if one idea tweaks your buttons, you are ahead!

  2. Worldwide Freelance Writer

Watch the top of this newsletter as it is advertising that sounds good but you have to buy or pay for a course or book. But that’s okay, you will soon learn. Scroll down to “In this Issue” and there is some general writing news, some markets that may be of use and an article which can often be the inspiration you need.

  3. Absolute Write

There is always an article on some aspect of writing. There are people asking for help E.g. I am writing a book and I want to include a character with dyslexia. Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this condition? It has a bit more about the writing community in general contained in it.

  4. Yahoo Group: Food Writing

This is the email address that was mentioned. This is just to ask to subscribe to the food writing magazine. Like most places, they just want to verify you are the person and email address that is requesting the subscription. This is a more specific site relating to writing about food. However, many of the contents apply to general writing anyway and if you have an interest in food and even writing about it, this has some good information.

Again, I have not had any spam as a result of subscribing to these newsletters.

I have tried others and that may be the source of another article entitled, “Sites that promise the earth to poor vulnerable writers with crushed egos but give you work where you are paid less than what you dog eats for dinner.” But that is another story.
