Formal Essay Do’s and Don’ts

Just a couple of tips I have for young essay writers.

  • Do not use I, you, we. Also, do not use personal experiences, stick to the facts.
  • Do not retell stories. The people reading your essay will have an understanding of plots and characters in the book if you have to write a book response essay.
  • Do stick to what you know and don’t use information that you do not understand.
  • Do not write for quantity. Do write for quality.
  • Do stick to one topic per paragraph.
  • Do prepare your readers for the topics beforehand by mentioning them in the introduction paragraph(s).
  • Do think of and write out your thesis staement and concluding statements before you start writing.
  • Do plan out your essay using a planning web of your shoice before you start.
  • Do make a rough copy then revise it.
  • Do not repeat yourself more than once.
  • Do keep your paragraphs short and have more of them.

Well thats all I can think of for right now. Please comment if you have your own personal rules. Thank-you for reading!
