Sometimes getting view isn’t all about money.
Why is it that when a writer proposes a plan to read others work and have others read theirs they are always inundated with negative comments and discouraging and disparaging words? Many of these commentators point out that such plans are doomed to failure because at most they will make pennies.
I think that in many cases these doom sayers, though they may be right, are missing the point entirely. Getting someone to read something you have written and commenting on it is a great way to make you a better writer. Something I assume we all strive to be. If by offering to read an article and commenting on it helps a beginner or seasoned writer in any way then my time has not been wasted. If their comments help my writing skills, then I have everything to gain.
Most of us, if not all, post our articles and stories to stumbleupon, facebook, and other networking sights for the purpose of getting more views. Many writer’s have a large friends network that allows them to get thousands of views with little effort. Some writer’s do not have a large network and desperately want some feedback as to what they are doing right and how they can improve. What better place to ask for that feedback than the site they write on?
Yes, these people also want to see their articles make money. We all want that. Though for some of us money is not the main reason we write on Triond. Personally, I can make more money on some of the other writing sites and I do.
Triond gives me the opportunity to make friends with other writers, some who are very gifted and that is a huge reason I like this site. It also gives me an opportunity to pass on what I have learned about writing to those who are just beginning. I like that too.
I often find the very best and most accomplished people in any field are willing to give others the benefit of their experience. They know their own worth and therefore don’t feel it necessary to try and discourage or dissuade others. In fact, they want others to succeed and go out of their way to encourage them.
In this dog eat dog world wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all had somewhere to go where everyone offered a helping hand or a listening ear. Where people said “Hey go for it!” and not “It will never work.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if Triond became that place for writers and aspiring writers?

My sentiments exactly. I’ve found there does seem to be a group of people doing exactly as you said. I know I spend half my time on Triond reading other people’s articles. I like learning about what they know and reading the many writing styles. I hope people in turn read my articles to learn something as well. Having one person learn something new is worth more than the $0.001 the view generates.
Great article!

Martie, you’re spot on.
I’ve been writing for 30 years, some years I make more money than others, but most of the time I just want to write, whether that’s pieces for Triond or Helium, or print magazines – or whatever comes along – or writing RSC reviews, or plays, two of which my wife and myself are be producing and directing here in Stratford between now and the end of the year, which means we employ actors.
It’s all about being creative, and looking out for talent and encouraging talent, and having people enjoy what you write.
Writing is essential, good writing even more so.

Nice. Isn’t it true that for most people writing is a compulsion, an irresistible urge and money is actually a side issue, though an important one as people need to pay bills.
