In order to make writing articles easier, we often stick to several formats that work for us. Having these formats in mind makes our writing much faster and easier to complete. I have always thought that I only have one format for writing which I abide by closely. But actually, I do have a few formats that I can share with beginning writers.
1) List Format
This is my favourite format. It can be completed in several paragraphs. You need an introduction and conclusion with a few points in between in the form of a list. Here is the structure.
Introduction
List
Conclusion
2) Review Format
We often write reviews. These type of article is very simple to write, mainly because it is based on personal experience. Even then, a simple three-step format would give you some structure to your review writing.
Why did you buy the product or engage the service?
What you like about it
What you don’t like about it
Would you recommend it?
3) Recipe Format
Sometimes when I write recipes, I would want to add some pointers to it or relate some stories behind my recipe. As such, I’d do that in the introduction or beginning paragraphs, followed by the recipe itself.
Ingredients
Instructions
Serves
4) Inspirational Article Format
When writing an inspirational article, whether it is from a personal perspective or from a more formal setting, you have the option to write freely or to write in a particular structure. If you write freely, it would most likely be in a narrative style. A simple structure for an inspirational article would be as follows:
Problem
Solution
Result
5) “How to” Articles
This is another favourite type of article. This format is pretty easy also. If you want, you can add an introduction and conclusion to your article. Or else, you can just number the steps for a “how to” article.
Introduction
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Conclusion
I love to follow these simple formats in my writing. It gives structure and having sub-titles in your articles makes it easier for your readers to scan your article. This is most helpful if you are writing an online article.
