Five Nanowrimo Survival Strategies

The goal of Nanowrimo is to write 50,000 words in one month-not an easy task. Here are five simple ways to survive Nanowrimo.

Nanowrimo will be crazy no mattter what you do, but following these 5 strategies will help you reach 50k.

1. Stock up on what to do when you get stuck BEFORE November. Before Nano, stock up on ideas to get over writers block. This way, you wont have to waste your time during November googling what to do. For some ideas, read this article: http://writinghood.com/writing/four-ways-to-get-over-writers-block/

2. Use Write or Die by Dr Wicked. Write or Die is a program that FORCES you to write, either by making obnoxious noises, screaming, and/or deleting your words. You can change the settings to accomodate yourself. Write or Die really helps you get the words on the paper, quickly. Check out Write or Die here: http://writeordie.drwicked.com/

3. Set up a “kit”. Whether it’s full of chocolate and Jolly Ranchers or a netbook and fingerless gloves, having a kit full of things that help you write is always a good idea.

4. Get together a playlist. Maybe you write well to heavy metal or classical, but either way, if you want to be listening to music while you write, save yourself some time by setting up a playlist before Nano.

5. Have a plan! Obviously, you need to know how many words you need to write each day, when you’re going to write, etc. The other side to this one is; you need to have a plot set out. You should know your characters, your main plot points, etc.

Hope these help you! For more survival strategies, check out my article http://writinghood.com/writing/10-nanowrimo-survival-strategies/
