Ehow and Demand Studios Merge: Good or Bad News for Ehow Writers

Ehow and Demand Studios are merging does this mean ehow writers can earn money or does it spell bad news for us?

Many of our Triond members also write for a site called Ehow. If you are an Ehow writer you have no doubt received an email from the site announcing their merger with Demand Studios. In this email you were informed that this merger will benefit ehow writers that have also met the qualifications for demand studio writers because you will not only be able to continue to write “how to articles” of your choosing but you will also be able to write articles for upfront payments from Demand Studios open request bin for clients.

From what we have been told so far this does indeed sound like good news as Demand Studios, does maintain quite a few article in their open article bin. However, I will say that the way they arrange their categories does make articles in particular niches a bit of a challenge. For example, they have a category labeled arts and crafts. Naturally most of us would immediately think that this would be a perfect category to talk about the benefits of homemade candle or soap making, How to make jewelry or other craft like projects. Such is not the case. This category wants articles on plumping fixtures, cabinet making, and things like that. More about professional services than arts and crafts.

While this is not necessarily bad it is quite confusing and can make finding topics to write on a little frustrating. However, I am sure that once you understand what the categories really mean they will become easier to use and may offer some great money making possibilities.

You will also gain some exposure writing for clients which will prove a benefit to many people and as not only will you be able to get your feet wet at your own speed but will also allow you to state that you have experience writing for clients on your writing resume which may help to get even better writing gigs.

However, there could also be a drawback to this merger as well. Rumor has it and keep in mind that of now it is only rumor, that the articles you will be writing for the ehow portion of the site will no longer be yours once they are published. They will be the product of demand studios which means that you are basically selling them your article but maintaining the payments you get from views. While this does not sound too bad, keep in mind that you will not be able to republish this article anywhere else but Demand Studios could as they will own the rights to your ehow articles.

This means that if this rumor is true that Demand studios could republish this article anywhere they chose and make money on it. They could draw views away from the ehow portion of the site therefore hurting your income there and in addition you will make nothing from the other places your article got published since in essence you will have sold the rights to these articles. While this may turn out not to be the case it is worth keeping your eye as you get more information on this merger.

If the rumor turns out to be true you may want to consider publishing your “How to” articles on sites where you can continue to own the rights to the article and simply write for the client portion of the merged site where you get a straight upfront payment for articles sold. That way you can make a decent income from writing both client based and How to type articles.

As more information is given about this merger it will be wise to follow it closely and see how this merger will affect all of us who currently write for ehow.
