In this article you will learn steps on how to effectively edit your manuscript for little or no cost. Editing your manuscript is not as hard as it has been made out to be. Steps to a smooth editing process

  1. First establish what you want to write about, see if there is a need for what you have to offer.
  2. Then gather up the necessary materials and notes that you will use during the creative process. (Paper, Pens, Dictionary, Quotation book, Historical books, etc.)
  3. Make a decision now if you plan to hire a copy editor or plan to use the help of trustworthy friends and family.
  4. Begin your project.
  5. Read over your own manuscript first before submitting it for it’s first review.
  6. Make all necessary grammar and sentence changes (don’t fully rely on spell check). Make sure your words flow together.
  7. Now it’s time to present your manuscript to your copy editor and/or friends/family.
  8. Expect constructive criticism and take good notes of what is being said so that you can make the needed corrections/changes
  9. Don’t take the criticism of your work too personally, remember that you want to publish a high quality product. Although you are the visionary and see the big picture, the critiques of others can help you to achieve what you are trying to convey to your intended audience.
  10. Make any necessary changes and go over your manuscript before giving it back to your copy editor and/or family/friends. Make sure the message you want to get out to your readers is still clear.
  11. Once you get your manuscript back go over it a few times before presenting it to a publisher for the next step of the publishing process.
  12. Now, exhale. You have now officially made it through the editing phrase of your first manuscript.
