Original content seems to be disappearing fast…
I am an ardent internet user. The first thing I do in the morning is Google! I am sure many of you do the same. However, pages upon pages, we keep reading web content that repeats the same thing again and again. My frustration reached a peak today. I will tell you why.

I have been searching for information on promoting your freelance writing for four hours now and all that I get to read is rewrites of one or two decent web content articles. Writing online since four years now, I know that most of the words behind those beautiful websites have come from writers like me. It distressed me to see that we are no longer writing! All that we do it recycle given information, that is, we rewrite!
Where is the original web content? There are very few sites that really provide never-before-read content and I can count them on my fingers. Isnt this such a sad state of affairs? This has, however, made me sit up and take attention of the situation. I think it is time that we provide good web content and not just keyword stashed gibberish that helps none.
I can think of the following things without much research (Research is on, but where can I get originals!!):
Seek offline sources: When was the last time did you pick up the newspaper to read the contentand not just the news? Off line content would be fresh lease of life to our online battered feeds. They would give news and expressions that has not yet been rewritten online. Exposure to a different style of writing and expressing would definitely give me original ideas. If you don’t order a hard copy, you can still log on to the!
Thorough Research: Some of us just cannot go back to hard copies any more. I know it is hard to believe that paper can have more ideas. If you are reluctant and feel website contents are the best sources, then so be it. However, you can help millions of users by not rewriting them. Enrich your readers with a treat of originality by doing a thorough research on your chosen topic. For example, if you have to write on “Train your cat to dance”, please do not Google the same and recycle the content from some of the search results. Instead, search for information like “cat habits”, “what does a cat like to do”, “what pleases cat”, etc that would help you generate new content.
As of now, this is all I can think of to create new web content. It is the need of the hour!
I request all my fellow writers on Triond as well. Triond is a wonderful place to put in your content. So, lets make it original and high-quality with new content.
Sprinkle the keywords all around if you want, but original it should be!

Good point there! I do try to write original content. Most of my writing is written from past experiences that are real, so I already have a lot or all the pointers in my head. I may have to look up certain medical or other terms just as I do when I am writing my novels. Brilliant article and it would stop people churning out rubbish.

@lilyrose, You are doing a great job of putting in original content..that is how it should be. Take references but not just rewrite.

Hi WE…I agree 110 per cent that unique, original material is very hard to come by…there are a few people who come up with unique and original material, but a greay deal of information is just regurgitated…must of it though plagiarism and then people have the nerve or audacity to call themselves “writers”. Thanks for sharing your frustration…I think we can all identify!

@jimbob1 – really! I so wish that we dont rewrite too much…thats the only way to build credibility for lot of websites!

I think you are right and no way one can deny it.

agree ! but sometimes , we just pick a subject from net and give our thoughts to them. its not like rewriting…. the same thing. i did it recently. i wrote one article on harshad mehta scam in india. it is one of the biggest scam till date but we did not have some information regarding the same. we dint have any 100% truth on net. and i wrote on the same thing. noe that article is there in google search 1st page if u search “harshad mehta”…and many ppl can read the truth. i think topic was old one but .. content was fresh. correct me if i m wrong.

I may not be writing but I struggle every day to come up with an idea to write about. Good article.

Originality is the true test of a writer. There is no doubt about that. I still read the original hard copy.

I agree. It’s really difficult to find anything truly original and innovative. But I believe things should work out better if one actually likes the topic one is writing for, creativity would spark on its own from there.

I agree with you. When I start searching something, I get loads of re-written stuff. Ideas can be got from everyday life, newspapers, etc.

Nice thoughts. I have noticed that same problem too. People creating web pages are often using information from one or two other pages and just writing it down as: one row from 1-st page, 2 rows from 2nd, 2 rows from 1st, 1 from 2nd. And that’s it! No more research, no more thinking, no more originality. Sad.
But good to see that here still is someone thinking about this

You have a lot to say and it is all quite right. I have recently bought a few paperbacks which looked so promising but when I started reading them I quickly grew bored of them. Nothing in them was new, unique, entertaining, intriguing and different. No imagination or passion. Everything was predictable. I think that fiction needs to be believable “lies” where we suspend disbelief and take them all in as though they are reality. There is a knack to finding that balance.

That is a great article and I know exactly what you are talking about. I also think going to the library is a great resource not used as much anymore. The internet is not always true about everything it states. Anyone can publish an article and many websites don’t care to check for accuracy.

i agree what you say.

Good question. Since I’m mostly a poet I will say I write in fits and starts.
