Tips to defeating writer’s block and getting back to writing again…
Defeating Writer’s Block
Silence is golden. Noise can be inspiring. Must your mind be clear to write? Or full of notions? Finding a time, place and idea are of obvious significance when it comes to writing. To some writers it is insignificant. They write wherever and whenever the notion hits them. What inspires them? It can be a memory, something they’ve witnessed in a public place or an experience they had with someone. Maybe a picture, or movie, the news… there are no limitations to what moves humanity. Some things and sentiments are more moving than others. Sometimes one must force themselves to write, if only for sport or practice. The more one writes -the more one becomes proficient at it. I’m sure some NBA moguls or all stars wake up and don’t feel like shooting a basketball through a hoop, even though they love it, it’s their passion, it’s their work, it’s their life. So it is with writing. Sometimes it can hurt to write, you have no desire for it. Just write what comes to mind, and let other thoughts follow until your fingers do the talking, and your mind is on auto pilot. Many good writers have experienced this, when it seems a script or poem or prose is being written on its own without you, you are just the visage through which it comes. Forced writing is one way to overcome writers block.
Another would be to perhaps help someone write their story. This can help you take baby steps so to speak, to getting back into writing and defeating writers block. After all you have a subject –literally: a person who seeks your help with a particular topic.
Another method may be to enter into several writers contests, of which they generally provide a theme or topic, and your job is to simply write a winning piece with a possible reward depending on how good it is. People, companies, and businesses are always looking for freelance writers to post blogs online for them as well; check Craigslist under writers gigs.
These are a few steps you can take to defeat writer’s block and to get you back into the swing of writing.
