Trust in the power of your imagination.

In the never ending struggle for an endless flow of content, a writer may believe that he or she must submit to ever increasingly exotic solutions. I argue that nothing could be more untrue. A writer will find the solution to producing endless content in his or her own words through the mysteries of the imagination.
I believe in the free flowing connection among words, ideas and content. An article like this one gets much of its substance from the interaction of words and ideas in the imagination which turns the words and ideas into content. First comes the words and ideas and then comes the content.
We cannot find the imagination with our senses. We cannot see, hear, taste, smell or touch imagination. But we know it’s there. We cannot see, hear, taste, smell or touch ideas but we know they are there. Words are the proof that imagination and ideas are there. The words make the content for our articles and flash fiction stories on Triond.
Without the imagination, words are useless. Without the imagination there word be no alphabet. Without words how fully could we express our idea? Without words how deeply could we communicate?
Creative writing is about using words to express ideas formed in the furnace of the imagination. So, all writers should have confidence in their own imagination. It is in the imagination that the writer will find the universal images of humanity.
It is in the imagination that humankind can soar without wings. All a writer has to do is what Hemingway was reported to have said, “Live it up in order to write it down”.
Good writing advice, indeed.

Nicely written. Personally, I enjoy putting words together and making wonderful things happen with language.

Ken, that’s true. He lived up his share and several other peoples’ share, too. Well, he left us some great fiction. A writer has to do what a writer has to do.

cutedrishti8, thank you. It helps to put down in writing what you think about writing. That way a writer can stay in touch with why writing is important. At least it helps me in that way.

Papa, it is enjoyable working with words, using language to create something other poeple may enjoy. We writers are lucky in that way.

I love your article as a whole, and I love the way you said its not part of our senses, and that it’s just there; that and and overall sounds so original, and truly you are a pro of writinghood!

Buma, you are too kind. I’ve been thinking about writing for many years. Writing fascinates me. I’m just glad I found the Triond community so I could express my joy of writing with other writers and with readers.

I wrote an article on imagination but your take and my take is completely different but what I’m glad about is that both of us have the same message that imagination is one of the most powerful things we posses. We cannot sense it but we can use imagination in such a way that it brings the senses out. Another brilliant read from you Guy, I always look forward to your say.

Hi, Atikin: I guess imagination is what sets humankind apart from all other living creatures on the earth. It’s amazing what we can come up with. We just have to look around. Writing is one of the good things.

Rightly said. Very well written.

Yes, Sourav: I think if a writer trust his own imagination a writer will surprise himself and come up with all sorts of ideas. Many of the ideas may be bad but a few will be good.

True, just play with one word, and a torrent of images come to your mind.

Marie, you understand exactly what I’m saying. Words are really just symbols for other things. A writer cannot keep from coming up with content if she just plays with some words.

I read about a writing exercise where you only write first sentences, not worrying about the next line or how you will create a story from them. When you do this you can be as imaginative as you like with no worries.

You have a beautiful way of thinking and expressing yourself in words. Writers do have to have faith in their imagination–and in the uniqueness of the vision that they continually uncover there and seek to manifest through their creativity.

WriteEditSeek, I think the content for a writer’s work is the content of the writer’s life. Add imagination and the writer has enough writing material for life.

ducroisjosef, that’s a great idea. That way the writer is not locked in. It’s complete freedom. That allows the imagination to work its magic.
