I’m bored, I decided to write something. Usually I write in a journal program when I’m bored… I felt like writing a short article so I thought I’d just do it in the Triond online editor. Big mistake.
I was writing an article about being bored, I lost what I wrote – twice. It’s just been one of those days.
I usually do a lot of writing in a journal program and in that program the hot key for checking word count is Control + W.
I have a “obsessive compulsive habit” (that I am working on lessening) very similiar to the main character in the TV show “Monk.”
That habit is (if you didn’t guess it already) checking how many words i’ve written, WAY TOO OFTEN.
Sometimes i’m writing really fast and i’ll check it every thousand or so words.
If i’m not writing at “warp speeds”, than I will check it every fifty to a hundred words.
I’m really good with hot keys so if I do that I can easily “undo the damage” (the interruption in word FLOW) by (well no “hot key” in this case) hitting ‘Enter.’
In a split second I can see how many words I’ve written and than I resume.
I don’t really get writer’s block anymore – I’ve been using the journal program for a while and have gotten to the point of it not bothering me or affecting me – but that doesn’t mean that such frequent interruptions in flow don’t hinder productivity. They absolutely do.
I’m not using my journal program right now – today I just felt like writing a “not super great article.” That doesn’t mean i want to write something bad – it just means I’m struggling with boredom and my focus is scrambled so so bad so I’m writing something for the sake of maintaining my writing habit.
writing consistently has a lot to do with how i’m able to write a ton of material in a short time.
I’ve written over 20,000 words in one single day before, and i’ve also (4 days in a row written over 9,000 words), and than the next day still managed to crank out 7,000.
It was a writing improvement exercise I took upon myself to engage in. By writing as fast as I could (ignoring my inner critic) I have gotten myself to the point where I can write a ton of words anytime, and not struggle with writer’s block.
That doesn’t mean the words are always great, but even when I write sloppy my writing isn’t so so bad.
This article is sloppy.
Back to the “niche website subject” I was onto earlier. I’ve developed my writing ability to the point where I have been able to make money with niche websites. I’m constantly working on building more (on the web – when you build a site that makes money it will continue to do so even after you stop working on it… so if you build a bunch of successful sites – you have a lot of income streams).
Of course – adding content every once in a while (but not as important as simply having a ton of material MINIMUM to “fill” a niche site) helps to maintain a high level of traffic. More traffic equals more money.
Some sites with less traffic make more money than some with tons, but in general – traffic is a good thing.
What a rambling fumbling article this is turning out to be.
Well – it goes to show you that if you’re bored you have no excuse: DO SOMETHING.
((((((((ANYTHING))))))
Yeeha!
Don’t be bored.
It sucks being bored.
Quit being bored. Go do something. Period.
Now – I took a chance (this third time) writing in the Triond editor.
I don’t know why I’m writing in the online editor, usually i do my writing in my journal program… but since i hit the hot key a bunch of times for Control W (word count in the journal program… CLOSING WEB BROWSERS IN A WEB BROWSER)… my web browser closed and i lost my work.
I’ve had a few near misses where my habit of checking word count too much has almost made me repeat that mistake for the third time.
So, i’m going to wrap this article up before it’s too late.
Maybe you were bored reading this article, maybe it gave you something to do, if anything – hopefully you’ve learned the importance of being careful when you’re making something in (making sure you don’t DELETE IT accidentally).
Maybe you’ve learned that when you get bored… doing ANYTHING can take your mind of your boredom-state.
That’s all folks.
