Clustering Words in Writing

Enjoyable tip for your writing~

You’ve just sipped your last drop of coffee and proceed to write an article or story, searching for crisp ideas, insight, and new words. There are times when a writer may be in need of a new catchy title, innovative articles, creative poems, and unique plots, for (fiction) stories.

General words may be utilized broken down to specific words. Here are some examples:

General                   Specific

bird                           Oriole                        fledgling

wildflower                  seed                         field

enjoy                         relish                        pleasure

building                      structure                  brick

fresh                          crisp                         new

uneven                      jagged                      bumpy

When a general word (place, animal, thing, etc.) flashes through your mind, jot it down and draw a vertical line (from the word) left side and right side of word, connecting different descriptive words to the bottom of line, then, keep going until you’ve formulated enough satisfactory descriptive words for your writing piece.

Utilizing this simple writing exercise may be a lot of fun; and enhance one’s writing skills. Also, cultivating simple descriptive words into your writing, gives your readers a bright window into your story, poem, or article.
