Do you have a passion for writing? Are you a prolific writer? Are you working hard to make money online writing in your free time? Then most likely you will be having these two questions in your mind. 1.”How long will it take to become a successful online writer?” 2. “Can I take up online writing as my career?” Well, let us now discuss about these things in this article and find out the answers. Please keep reading…..
Writing profession: Writing is not like the other usual jobs. Not all can become writers. Only a few blessed people who possess creativity, imagination and storytelling ability and the passion for writing can become writers. Writing job is definitely not a cakewalk. A good writer will naturally gain the respect of people over time. Writers are creators and hence can get real satisfaction from their work. They can gain knowledge in varied subjects, get the recognition of people and earn fame. They can also make decent money. How nice is it to get paid for doing what you love to do. This is the Internet era. Conventional writing seems to have taken a backseat due to the increasing popularity of online writing in this digital age. Can you take up online writing as your career? Can you become a successful online writer? If so, how long will it take?

Can you take up online writing as a full time job? Yes, of course, you can do it for sure. However before choosing online writing as your career, you need to ask yourself the following questions.
You need not quit your present job immediately. You can take up online writing as a part time job initially and keep working hard till you get good results. When you become sure of getting reasonable and regular earnings from online writing, you may decide to take it up as your career then. However you should also remember that writing for years is not easy. You need a lot of creativity and imagination to do that.
How long will it take to become a successful online writer? It depends on your individual skill, the number of hours you would work per day, the strategies you would use to earn online. Online writing is certainly not a quick rich program. It will take a lot of hard work and smart work to make money. Some of you may be able to write 1 to 3 articles per day while some others can write more than 5 articles daily without compromising the quality of the articles for the sake of quantity. Some of you can work for 5 hours a day while some others can work for more than 10 hours daily. Some writers know well how to make money writing online. They will be having their own websites and monetizing them optimally. They may be earning from blogging affiliate programs. They may be good at writing interesting EBooks that sell easily in market. You may be a good writer but that’s not enough to become a successful online writer. You need to learn many things including Search Engine Optimization. If you are having good writing skills and if you are ready and willing to work hard and learn the necessary techniques like the SEO, then I think you will definitely start making decent money within two years.
Smart online writers: Smart online writers are aware of the different earning opportunities on the Internet. They also know the earning opportunities that suit their skills and interests. An online writer can make money from blogging, affiliate marketing, EBooks, writing for revenue sharing writing sites such as HubPages and Triond, writing reviews, taking freelance writing jobs, ghost writing, editing jobs, proof reading jobs and so on. However in my opinion an online writer should focus on blogging and affiliate marketing to get the best results.

Summary: If you are having a passion for writing and are ready and willing to work hard, you can take up online writing as your career. You can’t become rich overnight writing online. However if you work hard and smart, you will be able to make handsome money writing online over a period of time. You can earn decent money for doing what you love to do. Nothing can be more satisfying and fulfilling than writing online and making money.

Anything is possible. Some people stumble upon a working formula purely by accident, while some its a long process of figuring everything out and for others, they fall flat on their face. Its interesting.

A very nicely written article and you have explained it very well. Yes, it would be nice to get paid for doing what we love and this is what so many of us strive for. However, you are right when you say it is not a get rich quick profession.
The world has changed and with computers and internet at our fingertips we have access to a world of opportunities never before thought of. Even my favorite novel authors have done away with hard copy manuscripts and submit their books online.
Thanks for another useful article, vijayanths!

Martie is the only one I know who makes a living online. It would be wonderful but it takes a lot of stamina.

when I first decided to write online for a living I had a three year plan to get to the point where I could make enough to quit my day job. Instead, I was writing full time in 8 months. However, even now after more than a year and 1/2 I still often work 7 days weeks and 14 hour days. Is it worth it? For me it was, however others may find it even more confining than a 9 to 5 job on the outside.

A lot of family members are around my house and are a distraction, but I keep trying to steal away and write a little.

I don’t believe I would want to spend as much time at the computer as Martie, but I do spend quiet a bit of time here anyway.

Writing online as a career? Only if you are really good. If not, it can be disappointing.
