Improve your writing

Building Your Online Presence

In this article I am going to share with you the does and don’ts of building your online presence. I am also going to address the importance of building your online presence and the importance of writing for many different websites and/or blogs. For a lot of beginners producing strong web content and/or writing great amounts of quality manuscripts online can seem like a daunting task. In this article my goal is to take some of that burden off of you and help you to take a moment to breathe so that you can get to producing great quality work. My next few blogs will be that of a “Blog Series”. I will share with you some pointers on making a good blog and how to keep nurturing your blog so that it reaches its maturity and not letting them go dormant.

Building Your Online Presence

The Importance of writing for many different websites and blogs

I would first like to talk about the importance of writing for multiple sites. I know that this may seem extremely difficult, but when broken down it is surprisingly simple. In order to build your online presence it is essential that you write for more than one site. The next question you may ask is “How do you do this?” well…to answer this question you must ask yourself one important question. That question is “What do I want to write about?” This part is very important at the beginning. You have to know what you want to write about. I repeat you must know what you want to write about!

If you do not know what you want to write about then you will never be able to be successful at writing. That is the bottom line. Writing as whole is an art form, but just like any art form there are different avenues. Where some writers make outstanding journalist others make even better poets. You as the writer have to know where your passion lies. If you love writing rhythmically then you are a poet and that is the genera or niche that you should shoot towards. If you love traveling then you should base your writing on that. If you love story telling then find out if you are better at short stories or novel writing and so on.

One of the hardest things that any writer may come across is wanting to write like their favorite novelist or journalist or what have you. It is very important that you write through your own voice (I will expand on writing in your own voice in a later article). Readers will follow you more when you write from your heart (I am working on an eBook entitled “What Writers Do When They are Not Writing” and in that eBook I will share more on writing from the heart and writing with facts). Let your favorite writers be the ones to inspire you, but do not try to write just like them. Readers can tell the difference.

Writing for more than one…

When building your online presence it is important that you do not mistake social networking sites for where your main content lies. Social networking is just what it says. It is for networking. This is where you can share your work, but do not spend hours writing on these sites because they can become “time wasters” and you will later find yourself falling in the abyss or the trap of social networking. Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter can be beneficial to you as a writer or a blogger, but likewise can also be a curse.

Lastly,

I will be bringing more on this subject of building your online presence in future articles, but I would like to share with you now that when you write for a blog or for such sites as articlebase.com or expertcolum.com or Ezinearticle.com you must specify your blog or your articles. I will be writing a new article entitled “Specifying Your Blog” to elaborate further on this, but for the sake of this article this is why it is important to know what you want to write about. Knowing what you want to write about is essential on being successful here online. Sometimes writing can seem like a long distance runner running into a brick wall, but when you sit down and actually begin to write I know that you will find out that you really have more to say than you think on about any subject.
