Books, there are many millions and millions of them and yet more are written, read and shared. How do we find the right book for us?

How do we find the right book for us?
It is fascinating to me that no matter how many books have been written and will be written, there will always be more. Every person tells a story and every story could make a book. Yet they are so difficult to write. We get writers block and cannot think of anything else to write about or we just cannot find the subject that best suits our writing ability.
I love to write, which is of course why I am here. My problem sometimes is that I cannot decided on what subject to write about.
I want to write a novel – that is something I have always thought about doing. I love to read but not any specific genre. I read fiction, non-fiction, biographies. I know I would never write a science-fiction novel as those I do not like to read. I like murder mysteries, some are better than others. Could I write one? I don’t know. I would have to learn a lot of facts on the subject and put myself in a deep place. I’m not sure I can do that.
It fascinates me how Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb can put out so many books, one after the other. It is her full time job, she sits in her home office 8 hours a day and forces herself to write. I don’t know that I have the discipline to do that. I get distracted too easily. I would have to lock myself in a room and shut everything out.
I could do that but the question is, could I write that book I have always dreamed of writing?
I’ve always been curious how and why a person chooses a specific book. I asked my family recently if the cover of the book helps them choose it. They all said yes. It does for me as well.
How about you? Does the cover help you decide to buy a book?
There are many millions of books in the world. How do I find the right words to put to paper?

I think everyone has a book in them if they can just fnd the right subject for them. I am sure you will find your subject eventually and write that book if you really want to.

Everyone has a story which can be a potential book. Sometimes our minds are too busy with our everyday committments and these distractions are keeping us out of focus…………………….to write a book requires discipline and time……………..to choose a book requires either research or pure random feelings………..it depends on how my mind feels. Thanks. Take care.

Thank you everyone.
I think so too, there are too many distractions. I would need to use my old fashioned typewriter to avoid getting distracted online.

Agents, editors and publishers all say that people choose their books by what the first paragraph says, which is why you need a hook at the beginning. I have never chosen a book that way. I go by the cover sometimes, but usually the synopsis on the flap or back of the book.

LOL Mel
Pat I sometimes read the first few lines but not usually. The flap writeup or the cover is what draws me in as well.

I would love to be able to write a book, but I don’t think I have it in me. Not yet at least. I’m too busy anyway, but maybe one day I’ll start writing one.
Great article, thanks for sharing.
