Becoming a Better Writer

How to become a better writer.

Every writer was not born a good writer, every writer who wrote an article, biography, novel or a short story started as newbie’s or beginners. Becoming a better writer depends on the persons will to write, some people may not be very good in sentence structures but the content of their article is full of information or sometimes very interesting. I consider myself as a writer who is in the “beginner’s level” but I never get intimidated by the pro’s. I take one step at a time; I list down the things that I need to learn I also list down my mistakes. As a matter of fact, I made a list of things that I need to do to become a better writer. And here they are:

Write what you know

In every article that a writer publishes, personal knowledge and personal experience is written in that article. We all know that our knowledge and experiences are limited so it is really advisable to place thing in your article that doesn’t make any sense. Information and interest in important in what you write, it is not the amount of words that you placed. Remember “It is not the size that counts; it’s the performance that matters”.

Practice Makes Perfect

The more articles we write the more lessons that we learn. As the number of articles we write increases the better they get, but it doesn’t necessary mean that each article we add to our journal or something the better it gets. We should also learn to read our past articles so that we would know what part of the article is not that appealing or interesting. But as the saying goes “Practice makes Perfect” it encourages us or it gives us the initiative to practice writing maybe in a draft or scrap. After making the final touches, our article is much better and ready to be published or read by others.

Learn to read and write:

A writer should not write and write and write. They should also learn to read other people’s articles. In this way, we are learning new things; we are capable of knowing what others have in mind. When we are starting to learn more about other things or other person’s way of thinking it will be another learning process for us. We may be able to realize that we know some things that others don’t know.

Experience is the best teacher:

In the process of writing, we would experience the joy of success and the sadness of failure. With this experience itself the next time around we would write an article failure will no longer be sadness but instead we would learn to avoid this failure and that is another success for us. Just like the saying “We would never learn unless we get hurt”.

Let Critics Justify your Writings:

If critics would criticize your work, don’t get mad or disappointed. It is an advantage for us, we will get the chance to know what is wrong with the article or even better we would know what would be interesting for them. There are some critics who criticize your work because they feel that they are loosing the battle. What I mean by this is that critics, who will criticize your work even though you know your article is better than his/her, are those people who criticize just make you feel that you didn’t do well in writing. If this happens to you, let it be, in the end you will enjoy the benefit of beating his/her article.
