Every writer on the planet has, at one time or another, experienced the pain of writer’s block. This horrible situation is one in which you can’t decide what to write, or don’t know how to continue something you have started. These tips may just help you break the hold of writer’s block and get going again.
You can achieve your writing goals better if you first make a firm resolve to do it. Making the decision to write, no matter what, will help you on your way to avoiding writer’s block.
If you can’t figure out what to write about, doing preparation and research work for the topic can often help. The more you read about the topic, the more likely it will be that you will be inspired to write about it. Not only non-fiction requires research. Even fiction writers can be helped in this way.
If you have a topic or story in mind, but just can’t get started, taking the time to write an outline or template will help. This will get your thoughts organized so that you can kick start the creativity center more easily.
If the topic is the thing that is eluding you, you can try a writing prompt. You can find many of these online at various writing websites. A writing prompt will give you a topic that you must write about.
If all else fails, just start writing. Give yourself permission to write anything, even about the writer’s block itself. It is often the fear of writing something bad that stops people in their tracks. If you just start writing, you will overcome that quickly.

These are very practical suggestions. I suggest you do another article on beating writers block when you’ve actually started writing something. Many writers, myself included, don’t have a problem finding something to write but it’s hard to continue going in places becuase we tend to ‘back ourselves into a corner’ so to speak and have a hard time ‘backing out’. If you make an article like this, then please send me a link.
