Appreciation for Your Writings

In response to the comments received for the article "Respect is Hard to Come By" and why I appreciate my fellow writers writings.

When I wrote the article “Respect is Hard to Come By” I had no idea of the out pouring of support the article would receive. As to quote my daughter “I was ranting again.” Yes, venting from frustration and lack of appreciation from those closest to me who have no interest whatsoever pertaining to my writing. But from your comments, I see I am not alone with my feelings of disrespect and lack of appreciation. We have all experienced it at some level.

How is it the people we love so dearly will not take 10 or 15 minutes to read our work? I hate to say it but I believe it is a lack of belief that we can accomplish the things we can. To see us with the ability to be creative, sensitive, wise and knowledgeable. To know there are still persons in this world who can communicate effectively, put ideas to words, and write without being boring. In our multimedia world the written word is so “passe”. If it’s not moving or has a voice or noise coming from it it can’t be of value.

As writers we must continue to hold our heads high knowing we are the true ones controlling our destinies. We have true power in our hands. By our writing we have the ability to make a person laugh, smile, cry or sob. All by putting thoughts, feeling, and emotions into words.

So don’t worry if your relatives won’t read your writing, you are in a community of writers that appreciates you for all that you give. This is whether you are just beginning to feel your creative juices or are well established. We now have a supportive family to see us through the good, bad, and non inspired times. If no one else will read your writings I will, to let you know my dear brothers and sisters, I am there for you.

Thank you, my Triond friends for your support.

Translating ideas into words, while still maintaining coherence, is the most difficult thing. More than how you write, what you write is more important. We must not forget that we are encroaching on another person’s time by making him read what we write. If it appeals to him he would return again and again to read what you wrote. Nice thoughts, thanks for sharing.

This one is so close to home that it borders on peeking over my shoulder. Just kidding! However, I have experienced all of the loneliness of a writer, as most of my family won’t read my stuff, and if you goad them into it, they may never appreciate what you wrote. So, let’s be friends, and together we will appreciate the other’s work, whether for camaraderie, moral support, or even a small critique (only if allowed). Thanks for a great post!

yes, sadly unless you’re ‘well known’ you get little to no recognition. However; being a true writer you would write anyway even if no one ever saw a letter you’ve written. The written text will NEVER disappear; words are too valuable and powerful to be held to just one communicative venue. Very good write!

Very true indeed! Yes, you’re not alone, we’re not alone. Very well said.

Most of our readers will be people who are reading because what we write gives information they need.
AskSan wrote a good article about the 4 types of readers we can expect to have.

We can contort ourselves in hope of finding a reason or we can relish in the fact that we have this forum and our “same cut cloth” friends here.

If I am going to write, I ‘ll be happy to know that there are readers out there to read them. This community provides the support that I need to become a writer. Writers need to be readers as well so I suppose giving and getting feedback gives us that satisfaction. Enough to makes us hang around here more often. You got a friend in me .:)

All writers need acknowledgement, writing has no glamour, but it creates the glamour.Writing is for both, facts and information or for art and style. It is a hard churning of the mind.
