According to Edward Bylwer-Lyton, “The pen is mightier than the sword”. That is very true. In this first installment of my new “And I Quote” series, you will find really hilarious and deeply insightful quotes about writing and being a writer.
I am constantly collecting quotes in a notebook and have been doing so for decades. I suppose you can call them my pearls of wisdom. Here are my favorites, which have provided insight, encouragement, comfort, humor and guidance along this path of creative evolution that I continue to nurture within myself.

“People who write fiction, if they had not taken it up, might have become very successful liars” – Ernest Hemingway
I love this guy! When I took a leave from my comicbook writing, I realized I was very good at lying. I make up lies just to make funny jokes though!
Thanks for sharing, Bren!

I found this to be very encouraging, even though on the surface most of the comments appear skeptical. I liked it because writing DOES take effort and it’s NOT easy; it’s like a relationship or anything where you want to excel … and this article brings that out. Nicely done.

I really enjoyed these quotations. Very good. I think my vote is for the ‘drops of blood’ one – none of us are true writers until we’ve sweated our first bullet of blood!
