An Experiment in Narrative Fiction

The following narrative is an experiment in the application of literary elements in fictitious character development.

Marcus Larven

Marcus Larven, in short, was five foot ten, and weighed approximately one hundred and seventy two pounds. Marcus owned a wide variety of khaki pants, and could only name three of the four Beatles. Marcus was self conscious of his outdated Toyota Camry, and was oftentimes troubled by his apparently lack of a decent pair of sunglasses. Marucs did not own an iPod, and rarely found time to exercise outside of his busy schedule managing the local Ace hardware store.

It was public knowledge that Marcus lived on the corner of West Mangrove street and Alabaster avenue, right beside the large, newly built house with the blue mailbox. Marcus owned no pets, and was always sure to wear his grandfathers silver wrist watch approximately three and a half inches above his left wrist. Marcus was also right handed.

Marcus still owned his rusty old bicycle from when he was seven, but rarely shared such information with the staff at the local Ace hardware store. As manager of such a fine establishment, Marcus’ insecurity prompted him to avoid sharing such trivial details with his fellow employees. In short, Marcus was all business, all the time.
