It’s nice to receive criticisms at times. We’ll learn a lot from it especially it is given constructively.
It’s not anymore surprising to see millions of writers, professionals or not getting hooked up with Triond. Publishing our articles and then eagerly wait for friends to view it, like it and comment in it seems like an addiction to many of us here. As a newbie here, I’m overwhelmed to have been able to add those friends who constantly check out my work without me asking them. Thank you!
“Hope you leave a comment or better if a criticism” I always type on my messages. I’m not an overly sensitive person and I’ll love to receive criticisms rather than just merely saying it’s nice. But I do understand those who gave such comments for I, myself give this kind of comments too. It’s just that I feel disconnected about the topic or it’s just really nice that I have nothing more to say. But honestly, I do believe that every piece of writing is nice but it just need improvements at times. Now we might be afraid of giving criticisms and offend the author and just end up having enemies in here so why not try my steps and give a constructive criticism that is surely appreciated and likable.
A-Applaud the writing.
C-Criticize effectively.
E-Encourage.
A-We should all know that every writing is filled with efforts. It’s a product of our experience, knowledge or imagination so applaud it no matter how bad you think it is.
C-Criticisms always mean learning something new when it is given effectively.Effectively means giving specific feedback. Is it the spelling, grammar, use of word or the style of writing that is wrong? And please avoid harsh words. It won’t help but rather disappoint them.
E-After some serious criticisms, we need to encourage them to keep writing and keep improving.
That’s it. Hope it helps and I would like to take this chance to apologize for those whom I never get the c
hance to criticize. It’s just too nice to criticize at all or I’m having a hard time of “seeing through” every words.

Interesting thoughts, but criticism would soon put me off, as I have little confidence in my writing and am still surprised it gets the reads it does. Funnily enough the rules here are the rules I used when marking children’s school work when I was teaching.
A good article.

Good topic, Jane! We often are afraid to give criticism (myself included), but mostly I try to applaud the writer’s effort, and encourage them to keep practicing and to read the work of others for ideas on how to improve.

A good topic considering I wrote an article on article criticism a while ago and this is the perfect answer to that. I like your use of the word ‘ACE’ because I think it just eases the process more. Smart stuff!
September 16th, 2009 at 9:15 am
Well, first of all, I alway click ‘I like’ regardless of my opinion on a piece. When I came here my writing was atrocious. I still have a long way to go; but I have had some very helpful critiques from other writers. With that being said, I think you should proof read this article as there are quite a few grammatical errors and word usage issues. Also, on the triond forum there are three threads with ‘workshop’ in the title, where you can post links to your articles and get constructive critiques; and a few extra views.
Here are a few examples I found, I hope this helps:
“Publishing our articles and then eagerly wait[ing] for friends to view it, like it and comment in[on] it[,] seems like an addiction to many of us here.” (I’m still learning so I may be wrong about the last comma)

ACE!

Criticism shouldn\’t have \’I know better than you do\’ attitude. That really puts off a write.
September 16th, 2009 at 10:18 am
I must be careful with my comments lest I get a “forbidden” from Trinod.
September 16th, 2009 at 10:40 am
i think this info was very usefull jane, i sometimes find myself struggling when it comes to leaving comments unless something really jumps out at me..great write thanks for the share!
September 16th, 2009 at 10:53 am
I am open to constructive criticism too. It can only make me better, as I don’t know it al,l or have all the answers. For the critique part, there are a few grammar and punctuation errors in your article. Keep writing, I have gotten better too, so it only helps.

A really good article, I enjoyed reading it!
I never really liked giving critisism, but I might give it a try from now on!
Thanks,
Jamie

It’s important to look at the source who is giving you the criticism. If you are working in the television or newspaper industry and the news director, editor or boss offers constructive criticism where you can benefit and learn from your mistakes, wonderful. It’s a way to learn and not to be taken personal. Failure is the road to success.

I like when a person is honest when commenting on my article. It helps me to fix it and write better ones. Sometimes it makes me feel a little depressed like i am not doing my best but in the end when i correct it; i really see that it was wrong. Thanks for writing this article, it will encourage us all to give more honest comments!
September 16th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
hmm…i would agree with Christine..criticism would put me off. It makes it difficult for me to write next. However, I think whether its writing or otherwise, we need to learn to deal with that aspect and keep growing…
September 16th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Really great one to share ….I agree with this
September 16th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
A is the correct option for me.
Sorry if my english is bad.
Best regards.

This article I liked very much. The topic you have chosen to write about is useful to one and all, however we rate ourselves. I try my utmost to offer helpful and constructive criticism, crushing others self esteem is both pointless and unnecessarilydemoralising.
It is also worthwhile to remember that not all members of Triond take English as their first/primary language, and therfore, when submitting an article their submission may not always appear correct to a trained eye. Therefore, allowances should be made, and, the author should be encouraged and tutored, before their next submission.
Happy writing everyone, and may your next piece be a joy and not a chore.

On this topic, I consider we must be careful. First of all we have to know who are you criticizing, for if you don’t have a good rapport with him or her, you’ll end up adding in front of Ace an M for Mad.
Respectfully,
Hugo

I totally agree with you on the “ACE” thing. While it’s nice to hear all the praise for your article, without constructive criticism it just starts to sound a bit insincere. Glad you wrote this to sensitize these kinds of commenters to that fact. This was a great and useful article although there were a few typos. Keep up the good work! (see that? A.C.E right there! lol)
September 16th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
very good post. I agree with you up to a point but I don’t think you should call it criticism because thats a very negative word. I shall continue to give FEEDBACK where ever I feel I can and feedback can only make you improve xx
September 16th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Criticism is a great way to improve and I think you do a great job!! You are good with how you flow your words together in your work.
September 16th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
good article
September 16th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Great write! I am a member of a local writing group and I become better each month from criticisms.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
great article!
September 16th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
I don’t consider myself an able critic in all aspects of writing.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
readers do let you know, they are good like that, if they dont like your work they wont leave any comment, but as you can see all of us are here giving you our opinions, your topic was read and i found it wasnt bad, but more of an interesting subject, my opinion is keep writing.
September 16th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Very helpful and informative article. Nice stuff. You write very nicely; and about things we all like to know as well. Keep it up… I’m looking forward to more.
September 16th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Nice article, loved reading it!
September 16th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
A-Applaud the writing. – I think this article shows a wise choice of topic. I like the way it is made personal.
C-Criticize effectively. This is hard part to say anything. Knowing how hard it can be to write I find it hard to criticise anyone who has actually completed something. There is opportunity for improvement in your grammar – that will come with time. Ihave been working on that myself for over 50 years and I think I’m making progress.
E-Encourage. I think you have the potential to grow.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Excellent article, thanks for sharing!
September 16th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
I like to offer any encouragment that I can. Most of us are not professional writers and we enjoy writing as a hobby. I don’t feel it’s my place to criticize anyone’s writing.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
It is nice when people leave comments and criticisms. I don’t like to leave criticisms because I don’t want to make people mad. Besides, nobody’s perfect.
I liked your article.
September 16th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Yeah, I agree with ma’am Ramsay, too much criticsm will end us all up saying the same things all over and over and over again. But anyway, thanks for sharing. I’ll be more intellect with my comments and actions (whenever I click the thumbs up button)
September 17th, 2009 at 1:16 am
You really put it into perspective. I am not only going to keep it in mind I am going to use it.
September 17th, 2009 at 3:15 am
Nice!
September 17th, 2009 at 3:29 am
Jane, your views are just similar to mine. however, it is my way to put constructive criticism in a private message to the author.
September 17th, 2009 at 7:11 am
Informative, very informative.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Who is qualified to criticize? Most of us here are amateurs, wannabe writers. I am certainly not qualified…I’m still learning every time a write, just like everyone else is.
September 17th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
i’ll take E.. I always need encouragement.
And I always like to encourage people.
September 17th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
I havn’t looked at the workshop links but that’s probably the place for Triond writers to “workshop’ their content. The comment box simply is not the place for people to correct writing. Of corse they can do it if they want to; but that’s not what the comment box is for. It’s set up to “comment”.
This is just my opinion. So, I never point out errors in someone’s content. I just comment on it like I’m doing now.
September 17th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
I agree. It is so nice to know that a work in progress is just as beautiful as a masterpiece. Thanks for this reminder…
September 17th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
A great article and I agree with sandie. The first line of sandie’s comment says it all.

Criticism is the only way to improve I think. I take it from veterans and new writers all the time. After all, I’m not trying to be a professional writer, I’m here for the friendships
September 18th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
September 25th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
I liked your article. Like Ruby, I like to give out encouragement to writers. I agree with most of the people here that we shouldn’t criticize each other too harshly because most of us are not professional writers.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
I agree – I appreciate honest criticism. When it *isn’t* so constructive, I still leave it – nothing like a good controversy to generate page views.
September 30th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Good article. It really is best to criticize constructively (when it’s due). It helps you grow.

Constructive criticism is welcome.Ones which are not true are disturbing, I’ve experienced it.Write such articles—youcan!
