I am encouraged by the number of young writers trying to have their voices heard.
Over the past few days I have become more and more aware of just how many teen writers there are on Triond. For me this has been an encouraging revelation.
In an era where our educational system has failed to provide children even with the most basic skills in reading and writing these rare, few young people have taken it upon themselves to write because they have something to say and want to be heard.
Much of their content is good. However, when reading the comments written about their articles I find that in many cases their content and their efforts are mainly ignored. Instead the comments tend to criticize their grammar errors and spelling mistakes.
While I agree that these issues should be addressed because they will help these young people to become better writers I also feel that we should take the time to applaud their efforts.
Telling a writer that his subject matter is interesting or his presentation is unique will also help him or her to identify what is good about his writing. Saying something positive also makes it easier to accept the criticism that comes along with it.
Being specific about their errors and taking the time to tell them how they can be corrected will also help them learn to write better.
Most of all, we should appreciate their courage. I like many of these young people began writing at a younger age. However, unlike them I lacked the courage to ever let anyone beyond a chosen few see any of my work product. It took years for me to have the confidence in myself to write for the public.
I wasted so much time.
These young people are making the most of their time. They have started writing and opening themselves to criticism far younger than many of us would have ever imagined doing. I salute them and their efforts.
For those of them that will end up making writing their careers and a part of their life, who are willing to work hard, and to learn, this is the right step towards success, and they deserve out encouragement and cheers.
Keep up the good work kids, I for one am proud of you.

You’re right !!!! A 22 year old talking here.
In a world dominated by the older generation…we have to find someway to express ourselves in a way they can’t control..hence – poetry and stories.

Hear, Hear, Martie, good piece.
Now, remember that Hemingway started writing seriously when he was 23, with a style that would change literature.
My advice to young writers is to make sure they read widely, including Hemingway.
To read is to take on fuel to write.

I too salute those teen writers.Writing at this age at Triond proves that they are not playboys or playgirls, besides showing us how responsible and self-reliant they are.A very nice article paying rich encomiums to the teen writers. Thank you for sharing. If they come forward to reveal their names, I too can extend my support in all possible ways.

A writer must be open and tough at the same time. This is very difficult. But without the pain there would be no gain.
