Improve your writing

A Learning Experience

This is a short piece highlighting some websites where you can learn a new skill of brush up on an old one.

The internet is a wonderful tool that can enable you to reach your dreams. With it you can explore far and distant lands. You can also learn a new skill. Perhaps the most wonderful thing about the internet is that you can do all these things without leaving the comfort of your own home. Of course many people who are using the internet to learn are hoping that what they want to learn will cost no more than their time. Again the internet meets or exceeds their hopes.

Time and space will not allow me to enumerate all the various things you can learn on the internet so I will just discuss two areas that interest me. First is writing. There are more writing groups addressing various genres than you can count. I’m going to list two web sites that I’ve discovered that have helped me to improve my writing. I still like and recommend Author Nation www.authornation.com/ even if technical difficulties earlier this year decimated this site. This site remains free in an era where more and more sites are asking for a minimal financial contribution. Another writing community (much smaller) that has been good to me is www.thewritersbox.com/ this community is asking for a donation of $20 per year. This amount is less than a newspaper subscription, less than even most magazine subscriptions. I’m aware (as I live on less than is comfortable) that for some people in the world this is a stretch. However developing a skill is of such great urgency that to me this is a minimal investment to make.

If writing is not the skill or knowledge you are seeking I suggest that you check out the Khan Academy.

Which may be found at www.khanacademy.org/ this site will teach math and some other science from the very basics up to things I haven’t even imagined. Whether you are a new learner or just brushing up your skills the Khan Academy is an excellent place to start and is free unless you wish to donate to them so that they can continue to offer their fine service to as many people as possible.

As I said at the first there are many more area that are available either free or at a minimal cost so I suggest you start your learning experience today!
