If you want to become an online writer and get paid for your content, this list of 20 online writing sites will help you to get started. Seasoned writers can use this list to expand upon their online writing efforts.
If you are looking for sites that pay for content, the following list covers a number of online writing sites.
A living can be earned by those willing to work hard at submitting articles online. To make real income, a good rule of thumb is to work toward at least 500-1000 online articles offering good information. The more value you can offer to the reader, the more you can potentially earn.
Join a number of online writing sites then commit to a regular writing schedule. If you do so, you will earn monthly income that will only grow over time.
Online Writing Sites–Factors to Consider
Determine if upfront payment is offered and/or a revenue share.
Always check pay-rates at each site before registering, as some sites pay more.A good starting point is a revenue share of 50% but some sites offer higher rates.
Make sure that your country makes the cut. Some writers have registered at writing sites online, then learned later that they were not eligible for payment.
Read through each site’s FAQs or contact the site directly if you have questions prior to actually joining.
Some of these sites require writing samples as part of the application process.
Once you’ve joined a couple of the sites above, try to write on a regular basis.
Produce lots of content. An effective method to do this quickly is to write your articles in batches of five. (An easy way to generate 5 article titles, with your topic in mind, is to call on how, what, why, when, where.)
Interlink your articles, thereby increasing your page views and earnings.
Strive to create good quality content that will endure and gain search engine rankings.
If you follow these steps, you you’ll make monthly income by means of online writing sites.
Thanks for your share Athlyn. I am already writing on a couple of them and aware of some others that you mention. Will check out some that I am not aware of.
Did you know that Info Barrel was listed twice. I’ve registered there but never gotten around to submitting. It would be difficult to find the time to write at another site with my current situation.
A gud blog for giving unemployeds to be employed.I appreciate dis blog for encouraging some gud works.I have joined one of the site.
Thanks,

Textbroker is another excellent site for earning on your writing and it is not a pay per view, but a pay per word site with the pay rate based on the quality of your writing.
Hi Sarah,
I did not include Helium in the listing because people who publish articles there cannot later remove them. This can be frustrating if one wants to publish those articles at higher paying sites.
Another great article. You know what you are doing online. i often thought of earning real money online but I lack the time to promote my articles so what happens is that I just write and write without making links and really promoting them so they end up having very few visits. thanks again for a great article.
Hi Valerie,
Any of these online writing sites can be accessed by typing the names into your browser.
Before writing for any online site, it is always a good idea to go through their FAQs. There are a couple of good reasons for doing so: not all writing sites are created equal & you may not qualify for revenue depending on which country you are in.
1) Determine if your country qualifies, so that you will recieve payment.
2) Decide if you want one-off payments or want residuals.
3) Check the portion of revenue that is shared with writers. some sites offer 50%; other sites offer up to 80%.
4) Check minimum word counts for articles. It is far easier to write for online sites that do not expect 500-1000 words.
About.com offers a generous payment amount to trained About.com guides (in the hundreds); Suite 101 is for published writers, offering bonuses for both Contributing Writers and Feature Writers, HubPages allows Hubbers to earn in multiple ways. As can be seen, for those who work at it, earning monthly income is entirely possible.
The best way to determine which online content sites are a fit for you is to try a number.
You should never have to pay to join a content site. Scam sites will often require a “processing fee.”
The Alexa toolbar is useful for determining how these sites rank. A high profile site, by dent of it power to attract a large audience of readers may be the better option.
Very good article and I really like your 20 list. I write regularly for three different sites, enjoy it and am doing quite well which pleases me. I may look into a couple more that I didn’t know about that you have listed and look really good. Thanks.
