Overcome Your Fear of Being a Freelance Writer

Gain confidence as a freelance writer. Learn to overcome your fears.

Have you given serious consideration to becoming a freelance writer only to be stifled by your own fears? Is it correct you tremble at the thought of actually writing for a living? Is it safe to assume you are interested in learning how to overcome your writing fears? Although writing involves some skill and effort, you can do it once you get the hang of it. As you read this article, you will pick up tips on how to become a confident freelance writer.

The first method you can employ to become a confident writer is to learn the basics and practice. Read articles and books on the rules and techniques of spelling, grammar, formatting and punctuation. As you go through these materials, practice what you learn on a blank document on your computer.

Do you ever become tense when you want to write an article or story because you fear you do not have what it takes to pull it off? You can help dissolve this fear by writing down as many ideas as you think of. Once you write down a handful of ideas, you are likely to realize that writing the article you have your sights on will not be as difficult as you originally thought it would be.

Have you shied away from writing on a freelance basis for web sites such as Helium because you have a fear of writing articles for a system that requires its writers to compete? Do not worry about competition. If you avoid being too redundant and you provide excellent spelling, grammar and depth in your articles, you will succeed. You might not always be rated at the top with Helium but you will come out on top more times than not if you are a good writer.

Are you sometimes afraid your ideas will not come across the way you want them to? You can overcome this fear by concentrating on what you write and closely proofreading your draft before you submit it. It is sometimes necessary to read your draft twice to gain complete confidence in what you have written.

Do not worry about having your style crimped while writing on a freelance basis. Although you might have to meet a minimum word requirement while writing an article or book, you will generally have a lot of control over how to write it. As you write, you are likely to feel empowered.

Are you afraid you will have to meet deadlines if you become a freelance writer? You can usually write at your own pace; however, it is a good idea for you to become a fast, accurate typist so you will have an easier time meeting a writing deadline or producing a certain volume of articles when it is necessary.

Do not be fearful about being critiqued by editors or readers. A critique cannot actually cause you harm; in fact, it can help you improve.

Have you experienced a fear of encountering failure or rejection if you engage in writing on a freelance basis? You must get over this. We all must fail or be rejected at some point before we can succeed.

Do you fear being paid too little as a freelance writer? Although it is true you must write plenty of articles to earn a substantial monthly income and that you might see fluctuations, you will ultimately be rewarded if you do not give up.

Follow these tips to become a confident freelance writer!

A very good article. Fear can keep a good writer from writing, but only if he or she lets it. My biggest fear was being rejected until Triond accepted my first two poems. Now I write full speed a head. But I do have a tendency to over research, which can slow down the process of finishing what I’m writing. Another great article!!!

Very inspiring article. I do have fears to because I’m still a beginner and I’m afraid that my articles won’t be good enough. But I’m working hard to improve them.
