Getting Freelance Work

Writing for free or for royalties and how this can promote a writer’s work.

  1. Get Your Work Out There

Are you considering undertaking freelance writing work? If you are but find it hard getting assignment or getting published then the next best thing you can so is to get your work out there. If freelancing is your aim in life then it is vital that you have some published content to which you can direct potential clients. You can get writing work but you need to learn the tricks of professionals like those who write for Inspired Author. One of these tricks is to find websites that are either willing to publish your content for free, such as this site which pays royalties or blog sites which allocate some of their Google profits to authors. If you’re thinking yeah, right, giving my work away will get me work. Trust me, it will. It is how I started out and I now freelance almost full time from home. The rest of my time is taken up with supervising post graduate students.

  2. Start Blogging

Just over a year ago I started blogging and there I met a group of writers who were happy to share their experiences and to encourage other would be writers to get started on a new career. One of the things I have found in writing for blog sites like
    Blogger
party is that it gets your writing out there and puts you in touch with other writers. In the last year I have blogged; usually on a regular basis, I have submitted content to e-zines and sites such as this one, through my blogging and my free content I have made contacts and found writing work. Anyone can join a site like
    Get A Freelance
and bid for work, however many clients will want to see examples of your work and if you can point them to one or two blogs and sites like this you will stand more chance of having your bid accepted. Joining the freelance work site is free but many of the jobs offer less than one cent a word to start off with, however, if you persevere you will soon find yourself earning more than that.

  3. Give to Get

Once you start blogging and writing content you can legitimately call yourself a freelance writer, albeit one with little or no income – but this will change believe me. It seems to be a fundamental law of the universe that if one wants to gain something one should also be giving something. Give some of your writing away for free, make a great bunch of cyber friends, and launch your career as a freelance writer.
