The writer today has a tough task trying to get published, if you are not famous like J K Rowling or Stephen King, then you have work to do. Remember, they were in the same position as you. They had faith in their work and it paid off. The Harry Potter book was turned down over twenty times, but Ms Rowling had the courage and belief in her manuscript to send it out time and time again. She knew there was a Literary agent out there who would love it as much as she did. There are Literary agents out there who do look for new writers, they are interested in new manuscripts and will read your work.![]()

Remember to edit and proofread your manuscript, don’t rush it. Read the agent submission rules and be patient, if the agent is interested in you they will contact you. Do not pester them; if they do not state a return reply time, then politely email them after four to six weeks, reminding them of the work you have sent for them to read.
Study the genre the agent seeks, if it isn’t what you write then don’t send it. This is wasting your time and the agents. Find the ones that suit your manuscript and spend your time contacting them.

Good advice Glynis, I like it as I am writing a book for next year and hopefully two if I get the other finished but 2011 will do. No Rush, it was one that I had half finished and got the dreaded writer’s block.
Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks Glynis, I have been trying to have my children’s book published now for close to two years. I hired an agent last year and had it edited but still no luck. I did have a publisher want to go in on a joint venture they wanted $900, from me plus another $300 for marketing. I turned their kind offer down.

Can the agents or publishers please add more segments, like folk lore, Self experiences on romance, challenges and so on.
December 1st, 2009 at 6:44 am
Goupal, thanks for commenting. The main genre would be fantasy for folk lore and for self experiences, it would be romance biography. So look for these genre and their sub sections.
Hope that helps.
