Mistakes That Could Cost You Money and Assignments

Freelance writers should be aware that sometimes even small mistakes could cost you big time. Here are some of the mistakes both new and experienced freelance writers make.

Bad Presentation

Presentation is key. Unfinished work, work filled with spelling mistakes and bad grammar isn’t going to give a good impression to your client. Read and read your work to check for any stupid mistakes.

Missing the Deadline

This is one of the worst mistakes in my opinion. Work should be handed over just before the deadline in my opinion. It gives a good impression and hopefully will secure you more work with the client.

No Research About the Topic

Writers you don’t need to know about every topic because there are hundreds if not thousands to write about. One thing you do need to do is to arm yourself with the latest research. Use search engines like google or yahoo at the least.

Letting Your Anger Getting the Best of You

If your payment has been delayed or the client has published your work but changed parts and your not happy one of the worst things you can do is rant. If you are going to write or talk to your client talk politely. You want to be seen as a professional and not some mad man/woman. You could end up losing future contracts if you do this.

Not Progressing Further

At first most freelance writers tend to accept low payments and that’s fine to start with. When your skills and experience is more advanced its time to start accepting more money for your work. Aim for a different audience now and now is the time to target the higher paying freelance writing gigs.

Check all the above and avoid making this costly mistakes. You’ll start earning more by keeping clients happy.
