1. You need first and foremost a passion for writing. Too many people look at the benefits of freelance writing (like working from home, set your own hours etc) but don’t look at the needs and requirements of the industry.
2. Freelance writers need to be professional at all times. You are doing your best to make a name for yourself so don’t show unethical conduct if clients are not paying you on time or during any other problems.
3. Presentation is vital. You want your work to look neat, readable and of course presentable to your client. It will give a good impression of you and your work and you never know could lead to more recommendation or work from the same client.
4. With freelance writing you are pretty much your own boss. There are advantages to this. One thing all good freelancers need is self motivation.
5. If you are working from home you should not allow your personal life to interfere with your business life.

7. You need to be able to meet deadlines and keep your clients happy.
8. A personal trait that every successful freelance writer should have is organisation. If it helps keep a list of all the projects and assignments due but make sure they are completed on time.
9. Occasionally you may have worked very hard but your work is rejected or may not have got a response back. You need to pick yourself up and try and try again. Good freelancer writers don’t give up easily.
10. There hundreds of topics that you may be asked to write about, some of them you may be familiar with while others you may not. Use whatever resources you can to research as much as you can about the topic.
