Agents are highly reputated professionals amongst the editors. So, you increase your chances of being read and given a higher consideration.

These days more and more publishers would not accept unsolicited manuscripts. An agent gives you an admission in that editor’s office.

Agents understand the markets better than anyone else and therefore, know where they have a higher probability of being accepted.

They are experts at negotiating. Something, every writer needs to be able to do!

Agents also know what season or time of year is a more favorable time for a particular book to make its way out in the market.

Even some of the sought-after writers can’t match the representation that an agent brings them.

Lastly, agents are not merely a writer’s sales representative, but also a partner. The advice that comes from an agent’s mouth is invariably inevitable.

Literary agents undoubtedly give their clients, that much needed edge. However, on the contrary, every coin has two sides and therefore, it is imperative for a writer to do a thorough research before hiring an agent.
