The Importance of Spelling and Grammar

If you’re looking for readers who are going to leave good comments and, more importantly, are going to read more of your work, it’s important that you work on your spelling, grammar and presentation.

It doesn’t matter a racoon’s left testicle how good your content is.  If your presentation, grammar and spelling are not up to scratch, it will put readers off.

If a reader struggles to read your work because their mind has to keep stopping to correct your spelling, or put punctuation in the right place, or add a paragraph break so that they can take a breath, then it’s unlikely that they’re going to read much more from you, no matter how interesting the subject, and it’s also very likely that they’re not alone.

Make your work readable.  That means making it look good, sound good, and above all else, make it good enough that your reader might just consider reading more of what you write.

I have written various articles on this subject.  It is of course entirely up to you whether you decide to read mine, or indeed look elsewhere for guidance, but wherever you intend to look, please do so.  It will make a difference to your viewers, and make a difference to the comments you receive, and a difference to the way you feel about the comments you get and the lift it gives you and your confidence to continue writing.

First impressions count.
