This article tackles how to make, if not a decent living, a reasonable one out of freelance writing.

You can’t just write for Triond and expect the money to roll in. Even if you get hundreds upon hundreds of page views, you will be doing exceptionally well to cross the $100 threshold in a month.
Even if you write consistently and at least 3-4 articles a day it would be hard to achieve more than $150 a month because the older articles will be losing traffic and once an older article hasn’t seen any views in a month, you can count it as being virtually obsolete. So it will always be a chicken and egg type syndrome. Write more articles, but expect more of your old articles to die a sad death in the internet wilderness.
Let’s talk referrals. These help to boost income and indeed anyone with 5+ referrals is doing well as they are taking an extra 10% of whatever these people make into their pockets. This is only good business if these newcomers write many articles and not only that, but write them well.
Triond will not make money for you if you blog or write poetry. I’m not saying don’t write poetry or don’t blog because I do both on here – but you won’t make money from it. You need an arsenal of how to articles, health articles, recipes, DIY, Gardening type articles – in fact anything that might prompt a unique visitor to type a few keywords in their google search bar and end up on your page. This is why for the most part it is better to write quality, well researched and helpful articles than spew out masses of poorly researched, virtually unreadable articles that will have your viewer running away screaming in seconds. I cannot stress enough how important the use of good English is. If a viewer looks at a page rife with spelling errors and grammar problems he will go in search of another article that is readable. If you have an article that is loaded with basic errors such as these, who do you expect will trust your content?
Keywords aren’t as easy as they sound. Even google has its favourites and you, as a new writer aren’t likely to be one of them. Using google’s adwords keyword tool is a good start for any new writer. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) isn’t the easiest thing to master unless you have a particular niche subject about which you are the only expert. Picking your subjects carefully can lead to a great number of viewers however. Computer game cheats and the like can get an extraordinary amount of hits initially, but be aware, as the game loses favour – your article does too.
If English is your first language and your grammar is excellent you can try to write for profit. Websites such as Constant Content will give you a list of requested articles that they would like you to write. BEWARE. You have to take an English Test to join and when you submit an article it has to be 100% correct. They will pick up on every little detail and if you have an article rejected three times, you are out. If that wasn’t enough the average pay scale is around $15 for an article so it isn’t going to make you rich in a hurry.
There are many sites out there similar to Constant Content, so pick one in your niche of writing and submit your work. Anything that isn’t accepted you can then post on Triond, which should maximise your earning potential.
Of course the social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter deserve a mention. These without a shadow of a doubt will get you more views. As too will posting your work on other sites similar to Triond such as Associated Content, Wikinut and Bukisa.
The name of the game is to experiment and do what makes you happy. You are unlikely to be rich in this game, but take pride in your writing and you’ll get a lot of valuable, uplifting support here.
Many thanks to everyone who has made my stay in Triond so far, a great one.

A very well written article Anna, very useful for a relative newcomer like me. Do you know if Associated Content is open to UK residents?

Great article Anne, thanks for the useful information.
I have never heard of Constant Content but I seriously doubt they accept writers from my country(Greece). Wisegeek does, but I have heard it is pretty hard to join. Perhaps not as hard as about.com but still hard. I will soon try wisegeek hoping I get accepted.
