Writing an Essay

What is an essay? It is a set of paragraphs in which, a writer expresses his/her views regarding the topic of the essay. The essay is not only a bundle of thoughts and views; it should be structured in a format that is legible and easy to follow. It should be persuasive and convincing. It should have arguments along with ideas.

There are some significant aspects that an essay writer should keep in mind while writing an essay. The foremost aspect that cannot be neglected is the structure of the essay. The essay should have an outline, an introduction, a conclusion and a main body. When the essay has an introduction and conclusion, the reader is able to get the idea of what the essay is about in just a few minutes.

The outline is the chunked information about the essay. The outline should be written before starting to write the essay. It informs the essay writer about how to move towards structuring and presenting the ideas in a comprehensible manner. The outline should contain the thesis statement, main ideas of the essay and the structure that the essay is going to follow.

Introduction is essential in an essay. It introduces the topic of the essay and gives some background information about the topic. As the introduction is the start of the essay, it should be written with utmost care and concern. Through this statement, I do not mean that the remaining parts should be written carelessly but that, introduction is the first part that comes before your reader. You must have heard the quotation, “Your first impression is your last impression”. So, introduction is your essay’s first impression and should be written excellently.

Along with introduction, the writer should not forget to incorporate a thesis statement in the introductory paragraph. Thesis statement is very significant for successful essay writing. Usually, the thesis statement is a sentence but it can also be stated in more than one sentence. However, the best thesis statement is that, which is given in one sentence.

What is a thesis statement? A thesis statement is one-sentenced answer to the whole essay. The essay writer informs about his/her intention about the essay in the thesis statement. The essay should circulate around the thesis statement.

Another crucial aspect that should not be forgotten is that each and every paragraph should be written with only one idea or thought. When one paragraph describes only one idea or thought, the reader faces no problem in understanding the core idea of the paragraph. If a paragraph contains more than one idea, then the paragraph is not easily comprehensible. In addition, writing becomes complex and complicated.

All the ideas that are presented in an essay should be justified. Through justification, I mean that the ideas presented by the essay writer should be backed by authorial quotations and sayings. By incorporating authorial quotations and sayings, the essay becomes more authentic and valid.

Conclusion should restate the thesis statement and should summarize the essay. The conclusion is the micro version of the essay. The essay writer should never forget that the conclusion never contains a new idea or thought. Conclusion only contains the points that are already discussed in the essay.

If an essay is organized with all the mentioned points, believe me, the readers are going to like your essay and of course, if the content of the essay is according to their taste.

Structure your essay, divide into introduction, main body and conclusion, incorporate a thesis statement, divide your ideas in paragraphs and see that you will get good comments.
