Principals of Effective Writing

Follow these principals and see your writing flare.

There are 4 basic principals for writing and by following these your sure to step up your game.

          Start with a clearly stated point.

  1. provide logical, detailed support for your point.
  2. Organize and connect your supporting material.
  3. Revise and edit so that your sentences are effective and error free.

When you understand point and support you can make a valid point or opinion. You also have evidence supporting your point such as reasons, examples and details. A good format to follow is:

  1. State a point in the first sentence.
  2. Give 3 reasons to support the point.
  3. Introduce each reason with clarity and use signal words like first, second, and third.
  4. Provide details that develop each of the 3 reasons.

The most valuable benefits of paragraph writing are:

  1. Good paragraph structure makes you a better writer.
  2. Creating a disciplined paragraph you become a strong reader and listener.
  3. Writing paragraphs makes you a stronger thinker.

Writing is a skill that you can improve and even master if you are willing to work hard. By exploring your thoughts you discover what your want to write about. After you begin writing you may realize that your topic has changed. The more you practice writing the better writer you become. Many people write in a journal as a way to connect their thoughts to paper. When writing a journal you don’t have to think about what to write as your thoughts will just flow. Don’t worry there is time for editing after your done. So just have fun and start writing.
