Living in a World or Temptation

We’re surrounding by temptation everywhere we look, how is this effecting our day to day lives.

The idea of temptation is nothing new – For centuries we have been told the biblical story of adam and eve eating the apple from the tree which they should not have done. This story can be applied to many of todays situations including; food, money, alcohol, love, etc.

As a student one of my main temptations is alcohol. In my personal experience a majority of students depend on alcohol for a good time. It is almost as if it is encouraged by the University at times with the events during freshers week fueling around obsurd amounts of alcohol and parties. It is so tempting to say ok, just one more drink. That one more drink turns into ten more, and that quiet night in soon turns into a night hugging the floor or waking up with regrets (or a stranger in your bed!)

Temptations occur with food too. Similar to a lot of people, i believe myself to struggle with my weight. I’m not happy with the way I look and in general I’m “uncomfortable in my own skin”. Why is it that I feel like this? I can’t say no to temptation. We live in a society that does nothing but advertise what isn’t healthy for us. We’re surrounded by adverts of fast food, cakes, carbonated drinks and sweets. They’re easily accessable, fast food places are literally; everywhere. It’s tempting to say yes to convienience. Why should I travel further, spend more or getting something les tasty because I want to stay healthy, its just so tempting to pick the easy option. This can be similiar when it comes to attending the gym. You sign up enticed by the promises you make yourself how you will attend regular and sweat off that big mac you stuffed your face with a few hours prior. Don’t get me wrong, you might attend regularly for two weeks but soon enough the temptation starts. Its so tempting to say “I’ll give the gym a miss today, theres something good on tv, im tired, its been a long day at work”. We live in a world of excuses. You’ll find that once you’ve succumbed to that temptation the once… it will become easier and easier to listen to that lazier alter ego of yours.

Temptation with money. Credit cards, loans and now the new money loaning to payday with extortionate interest rates. It’s a consumers world, theres always something new to buy. Things we don’t even need but are being portrayed as the must-have accessory, and we don’t have the will-power to say no temptation, we say yes, getting ourselves into more and more debt. Did we really need that ipad 2? Our laptops do exactly the same yet I wanted and got the ipad 2. So now I’m -£500 with something i really didn’t NEED that does nothing more than my trusty laptop. Silly temptation!

Obviously theres temptation in love. I don’t have much experience of this myself but it’s clear what can happen as its always in the newspapers (Ie. Ashley and Cheryl cole). So many people get into a relationship with someone they believe to be the one, they appear madly in love yet weeks/months/years down the line they are faced with temptation and ultimatly may cheat. People say why be in a relationship if you’re going to cheat… I don’t believe its as easy as that. People often regret affairs, to some people it honestly might have meant nothing (Don’t get me wrong, i am in no way condoning affairs or cheaters i just understand the strength of temptation) and if temptation hadn’t occured they may very well still have been in that amazing relationship of theirs.

You must have been smashed when you wrote this. Come on, dude. Seriously? You don’t know the difference between “affect” and “effect?” That’s friggin’ “obsurd” as you would say. Give it up. Or turn it loose. Quoth James Brown, Godfather of Soul. At least use grammar checker, you lazy bum.
