How to Write on Demand

I never thought I would be interested in writing that much. When I discovered the myriad writing sites that pay for my writing, I was hooked. Even then, I only write about what I know and about the things that interest me at the time. I did not think that I could write on demand. Writing on topics I have very little interest or knowledge scares me. But recently I did just that! Here’s how I did it.

Step 1: Mindset Change

I was afraid of taking up a writing job or assignment. I did not want to do a sloppy job, especially when people are paying me for it. I just feel more comfortable writing about what I know and I enjoy that. But in reality, there were lots of opportunities that I missing out online and offline. Many writer friends of mine encourage me to develop a mindset change when it comes to writing on demand. And I believe it can be done.

I wrote many essays when I was in school. They were based on topics I may not have any knowledge or experience in, but how come I could do it? I guess I’m too lazy to work my brains to write on demand. Recently I was given a writing job. It was unexpected and I wasn’t even looking. But I took it up even when I had reservations about it. I had to do some serious mindset change then. I keep telling myself that I can do it. And so far, I’m doing quite well.

Step 2: Get an Assignment

If you have never tried to get a writing assignment, get out there and get one! What made me change my way of thinking about writing on demand is when I landed with this unexpected writing assignment. I had to act responsibly. I know the firm which hired me is depending a lot on me to complete it on time. It was quite an urgent assignment, although I’m given ample time to complete it.

If you do not have a writing assignment, here’s what you can do. You can try to get one from Elance or any other websites that offer online writing jobs. At Elance, you need to bid for a job, like in an auction. While waiting for writing assignments, you can try writing on demand at Helium’s Marketplace. There are many topics you can write about, although many of them may not be topics you are interested or have knowledge in. Nevertheless it’s good practice. The best thing is you might even get make some money if your article is chosen.

Step 3: Do Research

The next step is to do some research on the topic you have been assigned to complete. You can do this easily online with the help of online encyclopedia or just by googling it. There will be tonnes of information you can obtain from your online research. Reading other people’s writing on the topic increases your knowledge about it too. Select the information you would need for your article.

Step 4: Organise your Ideas

After doing some research, you need to organise your ideas in a manner which will make it easier for you write your article. Once everything is laid out in front of you, you will naturally find the language and vocabulary needed to write your article.

Step 5: Quick! Write Now!

So the next step is to start writing them, as much as you can, and as quickly as you can. Don’t even give a second thought to typographical or grammatical mistakes at this point. The important thing is for you to get started with the writing right away. Once everything is written out, you can then read it over and edit.

I may not be writing about infected anal glands on dogs or bingo daubers (real topics my writer friends have done), but I know that I can do it, if I put my mind to it. With a little bit of research, you will be able to write anything under the sun.
